A Nepali sherpa guide made history by reaching the summit of Mount Everest for the 30th time, marking his second climb in just 10 days. It usually takes ordinary climbers several days to reach the top of Everest, making it uncommon for mountaineers to achieve multiple ascents in a short period of time.
Kami Rita Sherpa, 54, reached the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) peak by the traditional southeast ridge route, Nepali tourism official Khim Lal Gautam said.

Kami Rita achieved his 30th ascent to the top of the peak on May 12, breaking his own record. This news was shared by Gautam, the chief of the expedition monitoring and facilitation field office at the base camp, on social media website X.
Kami Rita climbed Everest for the first time in 1994 and has continued to do so almost every year since then, with only a few exceptions when the mountain was closed by authorities.
Another sherpa climber has summited Everest 27 times, making them the climber with the second highest number of successful ascents after Kami Rita.
