Ncuti Gatwa, the new headliner of Doctor Who, reminisces about the incident that caused a rift between himself and showrunner Russell T Davies. Gatwa stepped into the role of Doctor Who's main character during the closing moments of the 60th anniversary special, "The Giggle."
The actor from Sex Education will be appearing as the Fifteenth Doctor in the upcoming Christmas special, "The Church on Ruby Road." He has also completed filming for his first set of regular episodes, which will be released as Doctor Who Series 14 or Doctor Who Season 1 in 2024.
Ncuti Gatwa reveals why he “got in trouble” filming Doctor Who
Gatwa and Davies are currently focused on developing at least three additional Doctor Who seasons, and Gatwa has recently become aware of Davies' filming policy. In an interview with Radio Times (via Digital Spy), Gatwa confessed that Davies reprimanded him for using profanity on set.
"I've only ever been reprimanded once, and it was for swearing while wearing a Doctor Who costume," he recounted. "I was summoned to Davies' office and informed that such conduct is not acceptable. He told me, 'Do as you please when you're not in costume, but refrain from swearing while in costume.' I understood and considered it a lesson learned."

"For the past four years, I have been co-leading a show with mature content," Gatwa stated. "As a result, I am continually learning how to embody the role of a positive influence and take on the lead in a family-friendly production."
Fans can look forward to Gatwa's upcoming performance in the Doctor Who Christmas special on December 25, which will be free of profanity.
