NCIS: Hawai’i will be ending its TV journey after three seasons. The decision to cancel the CBS series was made on Friday, April 26, just before the season 3 finale. This upcoming finale will now act as the series finale for NCIS: Hawai’i. Part 1 of the finale will be shown on Monday, April 29, followed by part 2 on Monday, May 6.

The Hawaii-based series, a spinoff of NCIS, premiered in 2021. NCIS is currently in its 21st season.

The island-centered show focused on Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, portrayed by Vanessa Lachey, and her team of elite naval criminal agents on Oahu. This spinoff was the first in the NCIS franchise to have a female lead character.

The show features a talented cast including Noah Mills as Jesse Boone, Alex Tarrant as Kai Holman, Yasmine Al-Bustami as Lucy Tara, and Jason Antoon as Ernie Malik. Tori Anderson portrays FBI agent Kate Whistler, who collaborates with NCIS.

LL Cool J, known for his role in NCIS: Los Angeles, returns for season 3 to reprise his character Sam Hanna.

Antoon, 52, shared with We exclusively how much he loved being part of the larger NCIS family.

"It's amazing. Just being a part of that family and contributing to television history, even in a small way, is truly incredible," Antoon expressed earlier this month. "Being a part of that history, no matter how small, is really something special. It's thrilling and historic to be involved in that, and it's just so cool."

The actor emphasized that what viewers are truly witnessing in all the spinoffs, as well as NCIS, is the chemistry between the characters.

"It's not just a procedural show," Antoon elaborated. "It's about how these individuals come together to solve crimes, the dynamic between them, and the bond that forms among them. In Hawaii, it's known as ohana, and being a part of that has been incredibly rewarding. I am truly grateful to be a member of this amazing family."

He was hopeful about Hawai’i returning for season 4. Antoon said, “Hopefully we can get renewed and continue [the story] from our side, from the Hawaiian side.” He added, “Fingers crossed.”

Antoon admitted that he and his costars would be surprised and saddened if the show didn’t come back. Despite this, he mentioned that he will always cherish the bond he shares with his fellow actors.

"If things don't work out, we can always stay in touch. It will be like having a thread connecting us, where we can say, 'Oh, I have this thread now,'" he mentioned. "Hopefully, we can maintain that vibe, as it's important in creating a product that is enjoyable and fun."

Although Hawai'i won't be on CBS' 2024-2025 lineup, good news for NCIS fans! NCIS has been renewed for season 22. NCIS: Sydney is returning for season 2, and the new NCIS prequel, NCIS: Origins, has been picked up for a full season. In addition, Paramount+ has given the green light to the NCIS spinoff featuring Tony and Ziva.

NCIS: Hawai’i will finish out season 3 with two more episodes on CBS Monday, April 29, and Monday, May 6, at 10 p.m. ET.

Editor's P/S:

The cancellation of NCIS: Hawai'i after only three seasons is a bittersweet moment for fans of the franchise. While the show has not been able to capture the same level of success as its predecessors, it has introduced a diverse and talented cast and provided a fresh perspective on the NCIS universe. The fact that the upcoming season 3 finale will now serve as the series finale is a testament to the show's dedicated fanbase and the hard work of its creators.

Despite the disappointment over the show's cancellation, the future of the NCIS franchise remains bright. NCIS has been renewed for a 22nd season, and NCIS: Sydney and NCIS: Origins are both returning for additional seasons. Additionally, a new spinoff featuring Tony and Ziva is in the works. This indicates that CBS is still committed to the NCIS brand and believes that there is still plenty of life left in the franchise. While NCIS: Hawai'i may be coming to an end, the NCIS universe as a whole is far from over.
