Katrina Law believes that NCIS’ Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer should stay together, even though she acknowledges that it will be challenging. Law, 38, shared exclusively with We while discussing NCIS’s 1,000th franchise episode, which aired on Monday, April 15. She mentioned, “I think you might see some hurdles for them this season. It’s interesting because as much as Jess is still reeling and reacting from her React team [dying] … it still leaves an impact.”
The actress, who has portrayed Special Agent Jessica Knight since 2021, shared that Jessica, like many people in real life, has struggled to move on from the deaths of her former colleagues. During season 18, Jessica joined the NCIS team after losing her entire team in an explosion.
In addition to Jessica's personal struggles, Jimmy has also been coping with his own feelings of loss. According to Law, Jimmy has been dealing with the deaths of Gibbs, Ducky, Bishop, and his wife, which has been a lot for him to handle.
Jessica and the medical examiner, Dr. Jimmy Palmer (played by Brian Dietzen), started dating at work in season 20. Things got a bit complicated when Jessica's dad visited and reminded her that she originally wanted to focus on becoming a boss at NCIS.

During episode five, Jessica Knight reassured Jimmy Palmer that she was interested in dating him and content with her current job. However, Law mentioned to Us that their past problems could still affect their relationship.
"Law raised the question of whether they rushed into things too quickly, too eagerly. Is this the right timing for them? Are they leaning on each other for support, or is their love genuine?" Law pondered. "And if it is a real love story, will this be just a minor bump in the road, or a complete roadblock?"
She also mentioned that "it will be intriguing to observe their progress as season 21 unfolds. I believe that relationships evolve when they are put to the test, to see how they overcome challenges," Law concluded.
Law has mixed emotions about Jessica and Jimmy when it comes to what she wants to see on screen. She mentioned that Brian Dietzen is a fantastic acting partner, and they enjoy working together. The idea of having fewer scenes with him due to Jessica and Jimmy possibly breaking up is heartbreaking for her.
Law noted that both she and Dietzen, 46, are “constantly fighting for this relationship in one aspect or another.”

Law is aware that Jessica and Jimmy may not end up together, even though fans really want them to. (Fans have lovingly nicknamed their relationship "Knight in Shining Palmer.")
"I want what’s best for each character in the long run. We don’t know what that is yet," she said. "Exploring this is going to be the fun part of the next thousand episodes of NCIS."
NCIS airs on CBS Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
