After Prey was released on Hulu, both Midthunder and director Daniel Trachtenberg revealed that discussions about future installments have taken place, but 20th Century Studios has not yet made an official decision. In a recent interview with Collider, Midthunder was asked about Naru's future after her encounter with a Predator. While the post-credit animations in Prey hinted at the possibility of more Predator ships, Midthunder suggests that Naru's main concern would be preparing her people for other unforeseen threats.

That was always how I perceived it because, throughout the movie, the character goes on such a transformative journey. By the end, it truly feels like a rollercoaster ride. Additionally, there's the aspect of preparing for the worst-case scenario while hoping for the best. It gives off the impression that they may not return, but there are countless unforeseen threats lurking out there. Take, for instance, the encounter with the French fur trappers. It's a discovery of the unknown, exposing them to things they had no prior knowledge of. So, it's not just about anticipating more predators or the like; it's about being prepared for any unforeseen challenges that may arise.

Lauded by critics and drawing in record viewership numbers for the Disney-owned Hulu streaming platform, Prey exceeded all expectations to emerge as one of the standout installments in the Predator franchise since the release of the classic 1987 film. Departing from a growing pattern of increasingly lackluster sequels, Trachtenberg's prequel not only revisited the fundamental hunter-and-prey dynamic that propelled the Schwarzenegger movie to unprecedented success but also presented a refreshing perspective bolstered by the inclusion of Indigenous voices.

The studio's silence on a potential Prey sequel has left many viewers wondering about its fate. Originally planned for an exclusive streaming release, the Alien movie will now hit theaters on August 16, 2024.
