Mysterious Fate of Monica in Yellowstone

CBS, facing a shortage of scripted shows due to the ongoing actors' strike, has shifted its focus to unscripted television and obtaining dramas for repeat airings. Their decision to include Yellowstone in their programming seems to have been successful, as the pilot episode garnered 6.6 million viewers upon its recent airing. As both new and existing fans return to the Dutton Ranch, there is uncertainty surrounding the future of Monica Long-Dutton, who is the wife of Kayce Dutton and the granddaughter of Native American elder Felix Long. Does Monica die in Yellowstone?

No, Monica hasn’t died in Yellowstone – but she’s come close numerous times, hence why fans might think she’s met her untimely death. 

In Season 1, she gets accidentally punched in the head while teaching and falls to the ground. Despite initially appearing to recover, Monica eventually collapses, leading fans to worry about her death as Kayce's attempts at CPR fail to revive her.

Later on, we discover that she undergoes emergency surgery to address an epidural hematoma. This condition involves a gathering of blood between the skull and the outermost protective membrane that encases the brain.

What follows is a long road to recovery, with Monica requiring a cane and physical therapy in Season 2.

In Season 4, Monica and her son Tate face a terrifying ordeal when a home intruder attacks them, resulting in Monica getting injured. However, just as the assailant is about to kill Monica, Tate takes action and defends his mother by shooting the intruder, ultimately saving her life.

But that's not the only time Monica has a close encounter with death. In the Season 5 premiere, she finds herself heavily pregnant with her and Kayce's second child. As her due date approaches in a matter of weeks, Monica begins to endure excruciating cramps.

While Kayce is at work, she hastily rushes herself and a worried Tate to the hospital. Unfortunately, due to the darkness of the night and the intensity of her pain, she fails to notice a buffalo obstructing the road until it is too late.

Subsequently, Monica's car collides with the buffalo, resulting in her losing consciousness. In the following scenes, we find Monica lying unconscious in the hospital. Although Tate escapes unharmed and Monica eventually recovers, the tragic incident leads to the heartbreaking loss of their unborn child, leaving the entire family shattered.

Monica, a survivor, has braved numerous close encounters with death. Engaged in various dramatic and perilous situations, she assumes a vital role in pivotal plot developments, frequently exhibiting her unwavering dedication to safeguarding her loved ones.
