The ability to customize the player's appearance in the Pokemon series has become a fan-favorite feature. Choices such as hair color and style, skin tone, and clothing options have allowed players to personalize their characters. However, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the range of clothing choices is limited compared to previous entries. Players are only given four options for Academy uniforms, with accessories being the main source of customization. Fortunately, with the upcoming Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, there is a possibility of new clothing items being added, allowing players to expand their wardrobes. This feature was first introduced in Generation 6 with Pokemon X and Y and has been included in subsequent entries, albeit with varying degrees of clothing variety. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, due to the requirement of wearing Academy uniforms, have fewer clothing options. However, players who pre-order the DLC will receive new Academy uniforms, and it is likely that other clothing options will also be available.
Clothing Items that Should be Included in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player's wardrobe is primarily limited to the four seasonal Academy uniforms. This means that the options for player outfits in the base game are somewhat restricted, and mostly depend on how players choose to accessorize. However, it would be beneficial for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC to introduce skirts as an alternative to the default shorts or pants of the Academy uniforms. Skirts have been a popular choice in previous entries, providing players who desire a more feminine appearance for their trainer with a suitable option.
Additionally, another clothing option that should make a return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC are dresses. The customization options in Pokemon Sword and Shield included dresses, which allowed players to incorporate an elegant style into their trainer's look when customizing their league card. Given the Spanish inspiration for the Paldea Region, there is a perfect opportunity to introduce unique and beautiful dress designs in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, which Pokemon Scarlet and Violet can take advantage of.
Players will have the opportunity to acquire new outfits themed around the land of Kitakami and Blueberry Academy in The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, respectively. The artwork for The Teal Mask showcases player characters wearing outfits inspired by traditional Japanese yukata, commonly worn during summer festivals. These additions to trainers' wardrobes would be fitting after visiting Kitakami. On the other hand, the artwork for The Indigo Disk depicts trainers wearing outfits inspired by sailors uniforms, which is suitable for an Academy situated in the middle of the ocean.
Considering that players will be exploring Blueberry Academy at sea, it would be ideal to have warm-weather outfits like tank tops, as seen in Pokemon Sun and Moon, available. It would also be exciting to see other accessories that align with this theme, such as sailor hats, scuba masks, and swim goggles. Additionally, incorporating footwear options like flippers in The Indigo Disk and geta clogs in The Teal Mask, to align with the traditional Japanese aesthetic, would be logical choices. While the Academy uniforms will remain a core part of trainers' outfits, there is still ample opportunity for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC to introduce creative clothing options for players.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
