Mother Sacrifices Life to Save Toddler from Racing Accident in Michigan
In a tragic incident in Michigan, a mother heroically sacrificed her life to shield her 2-year-old daughter from a speeding vehicle at a drag racing event. The selfless act occurred on Sunday, leaving the mother fatally injured but successfully protecting her child.
A tragic incident occurred at a drag racing event in Michigan's western Oceana County. A mother named Kadie Price, 33, lost her life while trying to save her 2-year-old daughter from an out-of-control vehicle. Kadie was a spectator at the event, which was held at the Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes.
A Jeep CJ lost control and veered out of the racing area, crashing into a stationary vehicle, as reported by Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. Shortly after, the vehicle struck Price, who had just pushed her daughter to safety moments before.
Price's husband, Charlie Price, a deputy with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office in Grand Rapids, was also almost hit in the incident, according to Mast.
The driver of the Jeep has been helpful and agreed to have their blood drawn, Mast mentioned. Investigators have gathered witness statements, photos, and digital evidence, all of which will be given to prosecutors.
Mast also asked for everyone to keep the Price family in their thoughts and prayers.
Sgt. Joy Matthews, a colleague of Charlie Price, has created a fundraiser on GiveSendGo to honor Kadie's life and her final act of heroism. The fundraiser also aims to provide support for the children as they adjust to life without her.
As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the fundraiser has received donations totaling just over $60,000. All the funds raised will be given directly to the Price family, as stated on the fundraiser page.
The fundraiser is calling for our community to come together and provide strong support for the family in need.
Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes, located around 80 miles from Grand Rapids, is a well-liked spot known for its 450-acre off-road-vehicle area.
With almost 2,000 acres of sand dunes lining Lake Michigan, this park stands out as the sole sand dune riding spot east of the Mississippi, as stated by the Michigan State Natural Resources website.
