Ringwald recently posted a photo days after revealing that her oldest child, Mathilda, was conceived in Studio 54. In an interview with London's The Times on April 3, Ringwald shared, "I believe that Mathilda was conceived in the dressing room at Studio 54 right at the end of my run playing Sally Bowles in Cabaret in 2003." She added, "It's so Mathilda to be conceived in such an iconic place."
She always knew she wanted children, but it took longer than expected to conceive. Ringwald mentioned, "I was 36 when [Mathilda] was born. At that age, the biological clock is a real thing and it had kind of become deafening. All I could think about was: must have kids."
In the same interview, the actress from Sixteen Candles shared that the most challenging part of motherhood was realizing she no longer had full control of her time. She mentioned that as an actress, she was used to a nomadic lifestyle, but understood the importance of stability for her children. Fortunately, her husband is a planner and provides that stability for their family.
Ringwald gained fame in the 1980s through iconic teen movies like Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles. Despite the success of these films, she has expressed uncertainty about whether she wants her children to watch her old movies.
During a talk for the Center for Parent and Teen Communications in September 2022, she mentioned that despite being a teen queen and having a teenager, it doesn't make her any cooler in their eyes. She feels that to her kids, she is just their mom, and they see her as dorky and out of touch like every other mom.
