Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée Molly Hurwitz spoke out following the news of his death.
Matthew's desire is for the world to recognize his immense talent. And it's true, he truly possessed exceptional talent," Hurwitz, aged 32, wrote on Instagram on Monday, October 30. Prior to the 2021 reunion on Max, the two of them would often indulge in rewatching Friends together, where they would admire and discuss his portrayal of the sarcastic and clever Chandler Bing. (Perry played the role on the NBC series from 1994 to 2004.)
"He would say, 'Damn, I was incredible!!!... Do you see what I did there???" she recalled him saying. "We would rewind and analyze scenes. Our shared admiration and understanding of humor was an aspect that deeply bonded us. Witnessing his rediscovery of his brilliance was truly enchanting."
Alongside her memories of the good times with Perry, whom she separated from in 2021, Hurwitz also acknowledges a different aspect of her relationship with the late sitcom star.
"I had a deep love for him that surpassed my understanding, but he was complex and brought me a level of pain I had never experienced before," she expressed. "No one has had a more significant influence on me in my adult life than Matthew Langford Perry. I am truly grateful for everything I learned from our connection."
She concluded her post by mentioning Al Anon and encouraging those who have a loved one struggling with addiction to seek help. She expressed relief that Matty has found peace and signed off as Moll-o-Rama(...fication).
Hurwitz's words come two days after Perry's sudden death on Saturday, October 28th. He was found dead at the age of 54 in his home in Los Angeles, with apparent signs of drowning. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has deferred the cause of death following the initial autopsy, as the results were inconclusive pending a toxicology report. An investigation is currently underway.

Hurwitz was Perry's final public relationship before his death. They began dating in 2018, and Perry proposed two years later. In November 2020, Perry stated, "I chose to get engaged. Fortunately, I was dating the most amazing woman on Earth at the time," when speaking to People.
In the same year, the couple revealed that they had decided to end their relationship. Perry's representative informed We in a statement in June 2021, "Sometimes things simply don't work out, and this is one of those times. I wish Molly the best."
Perry openly discussed his battle with addiction prior to his passing. In 2013, he transformed his Malibu residence into a sober living facility specifically for men. He expressed his desire to be remembered for his efforts in assisting individuals who faced the same struggles with addiction.
During an episode of the "Q with Tom Power" podcast in November 2022, he stated, "The most admirable quality about me is that if someone struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction comes to me and asks for help, I can genuinely say yes and follow through. When I pass away, I don't want my involvement in 'Friends' to be the first thing that is mentioned. Instead, I want my dedication to this cause to be at the forefront, and I will continue to prove it throughout the rest of my life."
