Nine-year-old Charlotte Sena, who went missing during a camping trip in a New York state park two days ago, has been located unharmed, and authorities confirmed the detention of a suspect on Monday evening. No specific information regarding Charlotte's discovery or the suspect has been disclosed by the police.
In a news release on Monday, the New York State Police announced that Charlotte Sena has been found and is in good health. They also stated that a suspect has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing. According to officials, Charlotte went on a bike ride with her close friends around dinner time while camping in Moreau Lake State Park with her family, but did not come back.
Multiple agencies are continuing a search for a 9-year-old girl who went missing Saturday.
Spectrum News Albany reported that on Saturday evening at around 6:15 p.m., Charlotte was spotted riding her bike in one of the parks loops. According to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul during a Sunday news conference, Charlotte had already done a few loops with friends and decided to do one more by herself. Concern arose when her mother reported her missing at around 6:45 p.m. after Charlotte's bike was discovered in the loop without her, as shared by Lt. Colonel Richard Mazzone of the New York State Police.
Authorities had concerns that Charlotte may have been kidnapped when they were unable to locate her in the vicinity. CNN's Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst, John Miller, explained that these concerns arose when her bike was discovered during the search and it became clear that she hadn't strayed too far or become lost. Consequently, they suspected that something more serious was amiss.
