Mind-Blowing Revelation in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Shocks Fans Worldwide

Square Enix addresses a pivotal plot mystery in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, validating a widely embraced fan theory and shedding light on a long-debated narrative gap

Highlights

Square Enix validates fan speculation regarding Aerith's enigmatic recollections of the Final Fantasy 7 multiverse, shedding light on her awareness of Cloud's background.

Aerith's prescience becomes apparent during her exchange with Tifa in Chapter 12, where she anticipates Tifa's plea even before it is articulated.

Aerith's psychic powers could potentially have a significant impact on her character development in the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth game. Square Enix addressed a perceived plot inconsistency in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, subsequently validating a popular theory among fans concerning Aerith. This comment from Square Enix came more than three years after the highly acclaimed release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Warning! The following contains minor spoilers for Final Fantasy 7 Remake in the middle of the game. In the iconic 1997 RPG's first remake, Aerith Gainsborough, the last remaining member of the ancient Cetra race, rejoins Cloud's group in Chapter 8. In this 2020 remake, during their initial meeting, Aerith makes a comment that suggests she is somehow aware of Cloud's past affiliation with SOLDIER, a powerful warrior group within the Shinra Electric Power Company. She also correctly identifies Cloud as a mercenary during the same scene in the English version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Square Enix has now confirmed a long-held fan theory that Aerith possesses vague memories of the Final Fantasy 7 multiverse. This revelation came in a recent tweet, as translated by Siliconera. This unique ability allows Aerith to occasionally recall events or information that have not yet occurred in the remake, such as her knowledge of Cloud's past as a SOLDIER member. Additionally, Aerith is among a select group of characters in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake who can see Whispers. Square Enix has now clarified that these adversaries cause Aerith to lose her memories of the multiverse every time they attack her.

The developer has also verified that in Chapter 12, Aerith's conversation with Tifa serves as another instance showcasing her omniscience. During that particular part of the game, Aerith displays an intuitive understanding that Tifa is on the verge of requesting her assistance for Marlene even before Tifa can complete her question.

This confirmation regarding Aerith's clairvoyance holds significant implications for the narrative of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second installment in the planned FF7 remake trilogy. Assuming that the forthcoming RPG does not disregard her psychic abilities, these powers may play a substantial role in the game's storyline beyond mere occasional clairvoyant observations. Nonetheless, even prior to Square Enix affirming her extraordinary powers, some fans had already speculated about the possibility of Aerith reaching unprecedented heights in the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth timeline.

Square Enix had to clarify Aerith's traits once again, following recent remarks from the Japanese studio. This is not the first time the developer-publisher has had to explain certain aspects of her character. In April, Square Enix went online to address the issue of Aerith's eerie voice in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The game is currently accessible on PC, PS4, and PS5.
