Warning: This article contains spoilers for episode 4 of Secret Invasion.
Episode 4 of Secret Invasion showcased some of the most significant reveals in the show so far, with numerous shocking twists and turns. Each episode of Secret Invasion has delivered major revelations that not only impact the show itself but also the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. From the unexpected death of Maria Hill in episode 1 to the revelation that Nick Fury is married to a Skrull in the following week, this latest Disney+ series from Marvel Studios has consistently delivered game-changing story reveals.
In episode 4 of Secret Invasion, the frequency of these impactful revelations increases even further. The show manages to outdo the twist of G'iah's death in the previous episode by introducing a fresh set of exhilarating, surprising, and heart-wrenching reveals that set the stage for the final two episodes. Here, we will delve into each of these story-related turns from episode 4 and provide detailed explanations.
7 Secret Invasion Episode 4 Revealed G'iah Is Alive & Already A Super Skrull
The shocking twist in Secret Invasion episode 3 came with the death of G'iah, killed by Gravik in the final scene. However, episode 4 revealed the surprising news that G'iah is actually alive. This unexpected turn of events is a result of G'iah using Gravik's machine on herself before the conclusion of episode 3. By doing so, she gained the Super Skrull powers previously demonstrated by Gravik.
Initially, G'iah succumbed to the gunshot wound inflicted by Gravik. However, her Super Skrull Extremis powers, which pay homage to a scene from Iron Man 3 in Secret Invasion episode 4, enabled her to heal and be resurrected. Gradually, G'iah's wound closed, prompting her to escape from Gravik's compound and ultimately reunite with Talos. Interestingly, Gravik believes he successfully killed G'iah, setting the stage for a significant confrontation between the two Skrulls in future episodes.
6 Secret Invasion Episode 4 Officially Confirmed Rhodey As A Skrull Impostor
Since the second episode of Secret Invasion, there has been a widely accepted theory that suggests Rhodes is actually a Skrull working for Gravik. This theory gained more traction in the third episode when Nick Fury's wife, Varra, spoke to someone on the phone who sounded remarkably like Rhodey and worked for Gravik. Finally, in the fourth episode, it was officially confirmed that Rhodes is indeed an imposter Skrull. Just before a scene between Fury and the fake Rhodes, we see a Skrull showering and then transforming into Rhodey, which solidifies the most talked-about theory of Secret Invasion.
This revelation is without a doubt one of the biggest twists of the MCU in Secret Invasion, as it raises doubts about Rhodes' previous appearances. Now, the most pressing questions are how long Rhodes has been replaced by a Skrull and where the real Rhodey is being held. These questions are likely to be major plot points in episodes 5 and 6 of Secret Invasion, as Nick Fury will surely try to find the real Rhodey to help fight the Skrull threat. It is highly probable that Rhodes is being held captive with the other humans in Gravik's compound, and G'iah could potentially assist Fury in infiltrating the compound and freeing Rhodey.
5 Gravik Ordered Varra To Kill Nick Fury In Secret Invasion Episode 4
4 Varra Decided To Spare Fury In Secret Invasion Episode 4
Following the suspenseful climax of Secret Invasion episode 3, which left viewers on the edge of their seats, it was unveiled that Varra had been collaborating with Gravik. This revelation sparked speculation about the role this character would eventually play in the show's future. In an astounding twist during Secret Invasion episode 4, it was disclosed that Gravik, who was actually Skrull Rhodey, had instructed Varra to assassinate Nick Fury. By leveraging Varra's life as a bargaining chip, she was coerced into procuring the gun stored in the lockbox featured at the conclusion of Secret Invasion episode 3. Varra's mission? To eliminate Fury and put an end to his relentless pursuit of derailing Gravik's nefarious schemes.
In Secret Invasion episode 4, a surprising twist occurred when Varra decided not to follow orders to kill Fury. Despite his initial suspicions about Varra, Fury eavesdropped on her conversation with Rhodey at the church. This led to a tense confrontation at Fury's home, as they tried to distinguish reality from deception. Eventually, they both realized that their love for each other was genuine and chose to spare each other's lives.
3 Gravik Is Blackmailing Nick Fury With Maria Hill's Death
After confronting Varra, Fury proceeds to have a conversation with the Skrull impersonating Rhodey. In a clever ploy, Fury discreetly adds a liquid tracker into Rhodey's drink, allowing him to determine the next target of Gravik. Wanting to maintain his disguise as an oblivious individual, Fury requests that the imposter keep the Skrull invasion a secret and rehire him for his previous position. However, despite Fury's efforts, Rhodey presents surveillance footage of Maria's tragic demise, clearly indicating that Gravik posed as Fury to commit the murder. Rhodey stresses that Fury's claim that Gravik was responsible will not hold up in court, thus blackmailing him with the incriminating footage.
2 Nick Fury Saves The President From Gravik's Assassination Attempt
In the climactic scene of Secret Invasion episode 4, Fury and Talos trail Rhodey as he thwarts the assassination plot against President Ritson orchestrated by Gravik and the Skrulls. These shape-shifting beings disguised themselves as Russian soldiers, intending to exacerbate the ongoing tension between the United States and Russia after the Moscow bombing depicted in Secret Invasion episode 1. Following an intense firefight, Fury and Talos successfully rescue Ritson from his overturned vehicle. The episode concludes with Fury skillfully maneuvering away from danger, accompanied by the safe and sound President Ritson. Their actions have effectively thwarted Gravik's latest scheme to plunge Earth into further turmoil.
1 Gravik Kills Talos In Secret Invasion Episode 4
In a grim parallel to the conclusion of Secret Invasion episode 3, Talos meets his demise at the hands of Gravik in Secret Invasion episode 4. While attempting to shatter President Ritson's car window, Talos is struck in the shoulder by one of Gravik's accomplices. Despite his injuries, Talos manages to break through the glass but reverts to his Skrull form due to severe blood loss. While Fury escorts Ritson to safety, a British soldier who appears to aid them seizes Talos.
Fury turns back to assist Talos, only to discover that the soldier is none other than Gravik. In a fateful moment, Gravik produces a knife and fatally plunges it into Talos' chest. As the episode draws to a close, Fury faces the agonizing choice between saving the President or staying with his friend during his final moments. The scene concludes with a haunting shot of Talos' lifeless body. Unlike G'iah, there seems to be no possibility for Talos to have survived, as there was no opportunity for him to transform into a Super Skrull prior to Secret Invasion episode 4.
Rewriting:
Moreover, employing the same approach to depict two characters escaping an assassination attempt by Gravik would be repetitive. Hence, it is more plausible that Talos' demise will compel G'iah to actively defy Gravik alongside Fury, considering she has now suffered the loss of both her parents at the hands of Gravik. Likewise, Fury's determination to defeat Gravik in the last two episodes of Secret Invasion will intensify due to the death of his closest comrade, his wife's concealment, and technically Rhodey's departure.
