Fear the Walking Dead's midseason premiere allowed for multiple character reunions, thanks to the events that unfolded in episode 6 of season 8. In just six episodes, the spinoff series managed to resolve the conflict with PADRE, the group that was previously believed to be the ultimate antagonists of FTWD. This conclusion not only introduced a new threat, but also bid farewell to a long-standing member of the cast. As a result, Fear the Walking Dead has set the stage for numerous captivating storylines to unfold upon its return.

Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 6, titled “All I See is Red” was filled with significant developments, the most noteworthy of which was Morgan Jones’ departure. Despite seeing the battle with PADRE through to the end, Morgan surprisingly decided not to remain for their subsequent journey. Madison, on the other hand, will continue on without him, assuming the role of PADRE’s new leader. The final scene hinted at Madison’s determination to transform PADRE into something better, which will inevitably lead her to clash with the true antagonist of the final season. These unexpected turns in the episode set the stage for six reunions among characters from The Walking Dead series.

6 Madison & Strand

Strand's absence from the PADRE arc was perhaps one of the most unexpected narrative decisions made by FTWD. Despite being shown escaping from PADRE before Morgan's group was captured in the season 7 finale, fans naturally anticipated his involvement in some capacity. However, the PADRE storyline deliberately avoided including Strand altogether. In the premiere, Morgan simply served as a reminder that Strand had managed to escape. With Strand off on his own and Madison deeply intertwined in the PADFRE pilot, the opportunity for the two characters to intersect was nonexistent. Nevertheless, as Madison's group departs from the island, there is now potential for Strand to make a return.

5 Dwight & Negan

In the midseason premiere, Dwight revealed his intention to return "home," although it remains unclear what exactly he means by that. Given the context of The Walking Dead, it is known that Dwight grew up in the Virginia area. If he were to go back there, he could potentially encounter familiar faces from his past, including characters from the main series. There is even the possibility of a confrontation with Negan. Currently, Negan is on a rescue mission in New York with Maggie in The Walking Dead: Dead City, but assuming he survives and doesn't stay there permanently, it is likely that he will return at some point in the future.

When this happens, Dwight may already be in close proximity. A promotional teaser for the second half of FTWD season 8 confirms that Dwight won't be leaving immediately, suggesting that he may postpone his plan to return "home" until after the show concludes. If this scenario plays out, it is possible that the franchise will explore Dwight's future beyond the show, potentially leading to a bitter reunion with his most despised enemy.

4 Madison & Troy

It seems that FTWD is leading up to a showdown between Madison and Troy as the climax of the series. While Troy appeared to have been killed by Madison in the second-to-last episode of season 3, a hint in the Fear the Walking Dead midseason finale suggests otherwise. The final scene intriguingly focuses on a hammer that resembles the one Madison used to strike Troy. If this subtle clue is any indication, it suggests that Troy managed to survive the blows to his head and the destruction of the dam. Now, it seems that he is on a mission to find and confront Madison.

Throughout Fear the Walking Dead, Madison and Troy had a peculiar relationship, with Troy always seeking Madison's approval and acceptance. This desire continued until the very end, when Madison abruptly attacked him after discovering that he was responsible for the zombie horde that wiped out the Otto ranch. Given how strongly Troy held onto grudges in season 3, it is highly likely that if he is still alive, he will seek revenge against Madison. 3 Morgan & Rick

Lennie James has been tight-lipped about his future as Morgan in Fear the Walking Dead, but his final episode leaves no doubt about where his character's story is headed if he were to return. The midseason finale cleverly ties in with the subtle references to Rick Grimes from season 8, as Morgan pledges to find Rick no matter how long it takes. Leaving a message on the radio, Morgan and Mo embark on what promises to be a lengthy search. While it remains uncertain if this search will yield any results, Morgan's determination and the clear setup for a reunion with Rick make James' character a strong contender for a role in the spinoff featuring Rick and Michonne.

Considering that filming for the show is already underway and there has been no announcement regarding James' involvement, it seems unlikely that Morgan will appear in the first six episodes of the series. However, the chances of his appearance in a potential second season would be much higher. As long as Rick's show enjoys a decent run, there will likely be an opportunity for Morgan and him to join forces once again in The Walking Dead universe.

2 Morgan & Carol

Morgan's new mission in The Walking Dead universe sets the stage for another significant reunion for the character. Throughout his time on the main show, Morgan developed a memorable dynamic with Carol, played by Melissa McBride. Now that Morgan has expressed his desire to locate Rick Grimes, it is highly likely that he will cross paths with Carol once again. Since Morgan is unaware of Rick's absence, it is logical for him to begin his search in Alexandria, as it is the most obvious starting point. It is reasonable to assume that Morgan will reconnect with the residents of Alexandria and discover the truth about Rick's kidnapping. 1 Madison & Alicia

Before the midseason finale, it was easy to assume that Alicia's future in Fear the Walking Dead would remain uncertain, especially considering there was no indication that Alycia Debnam-Carey would be returning to the role. However, the final scene suggests that her fate will indeed be addressed in some way. One possibility is that it will confirm her off-screen death at the hands of the show's ultimate antagonist. Alternatively, the series may be laying the groundwork for a potential reunion between Madison and Alicia, mother and daughter.

If the series had planned on killing Alicia off, it would be more logical to assume that they wouldn't have unexpectedly cured her of the zombie virus in season 7. Considering the possibility that her missing arm is a sign of her being kidnapped, there remains a chance for Madison and her allies to save her in one of the remaining episodes of the show.
