Summary
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4 showcases six original High School Musical cast members, namely Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Lucas Grabeel. These actors return to reprise their respective roles from the franchise and deliver a captivating performance of "High School Reunion" in a fictional fourth installment.
Monique Coleman plays a significant role in season 4, providing guidance to Kourtney and promoting authenticity in the High School Musical 4 film. The producers and writers of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series went all out for their final season, bringing in six original High School Musical actors to appear in the Disney+ show. Unfortunately, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale were unable to find time in their busy schedules to film scenes for the series' last episodes. However, the cameos secured by creator Tim Federle and his team for season 4 were incredibly thrilling.
6 Corbin Bleu
The fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series continued the story from where the third season left off. After their transformative summer camp experience, the characters were back and ready for a new school year. However, Miss Jenn's plans to stage a production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year for the drama club's fall show faced a setback. It was announced that High School Musical 4: The Reunion would be filmed at East High, and some of Miss Jenn's students would be cast as extras in the movie. Consequently, a few of the original High School Musical stars returned to reprise their roles in the fictional fourth film.
In season 3 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Corbin Bleu portrayed a fictionalized version of himself. He made a brief appearance in the season 4 premiere, but the majority of the High School Musical 4: The Reunion production took place offscreen. Despite not appearing in the rest of the season, Corbin took the time to reunite with his beloved Wildcats in episode 1. In a nostalgic moment, he joined his fellow cast mates in performing "High School Reunion," a scene from the fourth High School Musical movie where he reprised his role as Chad Danforth.
5 Monique Coleman
After the characters discovered that High School Musical 4: The Reunion would be filmed at their school on the first day of school, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4, episode 1 took viewers back in time. Corbin, who had previously caused chaos in the choir room with the ill-fated Frozen documentary, made a reappearance. Seeking reconciliation, Corbin met with Ricky, Gina, Carlos, Kourtney, Ashlyn, and Emmy in the choir room. He proposed that they join Ms. Darbus' drama club as featured extras in High School Musical 4: The Reunion. To everyone's delight, they all (except Ricky, perhaps) readily agreed.Monique Coleman, known for her portrayal of Taylor McKessie in the High School Musical franchise, made a subtle yet notable appearance in the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Just like Corbin Bleu, Monique appeared in the first episode and reprised her iconic role as Taylor during the "High School Reunion" musical number. Together with Corbin, she returned to propose their idea of involving the drama club members as extras in High School Musical 4: The Reunion. Monique explained that their intention was for the film to possess an "authentic, grounded, and universally relatable" quality, which is why they specifically asked Ricky, Gina, Carlos, Kourtney, Ashlyn, and Emmy to participate as extras.
Monique made a comeback during the finale of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series to offer Kourtney some valuable advice. After spending time in Utah for a skiing trip with her boyfriend, she decided to check out the production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Thus, when Kourtney found herself in need of guidance regarding her college decision, Monique was there for her.
4 Lucas Grabeel
Lucas Grabeel, who made his debut in the first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series through Miss Jenn's dream sequence, made a comeback in season 4 of the Disney+ series alongside his former High School Musical colleagues. The thrilling opening number, "High School Reunion," disclosed that Lucas's character, Ryan, was gay and in a romantic relationship with a man portrayed by Scott Hoying, a member of the music group Pentatonix. Subsequently, Lucas, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman united to inform Ricky, Gina, Carlos, Kourtney, Ashlyn, and Emmy about their concept to enlist them as background actors in the fourth movie. As expected, the characters were overjoyed to meet the actors who brought Chad, Taylor, and Ryan to life.
3 Kaycee Stroh
2 Bart Johnson
Kaycee Stroh, who played Martha Cox, made a cameo appearance in the opening scene of season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. However, this was the only scene featuring the actress. It is presumed that she had a more significant role in High School Musical 4: The Reunion, particularly since Martha is the character who provided an update on Troy, Gabriella, and Sharpay. In a previous episode of season 1, Kaycee appeared as herself in a brief scene.
Just like the rest of the original High School Musical cast members, Bart Johnson returned to portray his character, Coach Bolton, in High School Musical 4: The Reunion. This happened in the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. In the opening scene, he was shown questioning the whereabouts of Troy, Gabriella, and Sharpay, while also maintaining his ongoing rivalry with Ms. Darbus. Furthermore, Bart took charge of a school assembly in episode 1, where he excitedly announced that the fourth High School Musical movie would be filmed at East High.
The actor made a comeback in the sixth episode and generously offered to contribute a quarter of his salary from High School Musical 4: The Reunion to support the production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Bart, along with another original High School Musical actor, played a pivotal role in rescuing the fall musical. He emphasized the importance of saving the drama department, especially after being mesmerized by Emmy's astounding performance of "Dreams Don't Die."
1 Alyson Reed
In order to honor the retirement of Ms. Darbus and the storyline of High School Musical 4: The Reunion, it was only fitting that Alyson Reed had a guest appearance in Season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Among the original High School Musical cast, she had the most screen time as the characters portrayed extras in Ms. Darbus's drama club. Even Gina, who landed a prominent role in the movie after Dani's departure, had the opportunity to act alongside Alyson.
Alyson made appearances as herself in a few other scenes. One was a flashback to when she met Miss Jenn during an audition and gave her some valuable advice. Another was in episode 6, where she was seen alongside Bart Johnson, offering a quarter of her salary to the drama department. Alyson played a significant role in making sure that High School Musical 3: Senior Year happened. While it was hinted that Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale were involved in the production of the reunion movie, they were not seen onscreen in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4.
