Albert S. Ruddy, the renowned producer of The Godfather, passed away at the age of 94.
It was reported by Deadline on Tuesday, May 28, that Ruddy, affectionately called "Al" by his friends, died on Saturday, May 25, in Los Angeles after a short illness.
Ruddy's life was featured in the 2022 Paramount+ series The Offer, with Miles Teller playing the role of the Oscar-winning producer. Ruddy is well known for his efforts in getting the 1972 film The Godfather produced at Paramount Pictures.
In a statement obtained by Deadline, Teller, 37, expressed his gratitude for portraying Al in The Offer. He mentioned that Al lived a life that many could only dream of and envy.
The actor’s wife, Keleigh Teller, also shared a social media tribute to the late Ruddy on Tuesday.

"We said goodbye to a legend this past weekend. Albert S. Ruddy will be deeply missed," she wrote on Instagram. The post included a series of photos showing 37-year-old Miles Teller alongside Ruddy. "Miles had the incredible experience of stepping into his shoes for months, playing the role of the iconic Al in 'THE OFFER'. Al's zest for life and charm were truly one of a kind."
She added that filming was a joy and a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the industry. She mentioned how he spoke fondly of his incredible wife @wandamcdaniel and his daughter @ruddybuddy who carries on his legacy. Our hearts are with you.
The director of the film, Dexter Fletcher, described Ruddy as one of the great Hollywood mavericks in his statement responding to the producer's passing.
Fletcher, 58, shared with Deadline his admiration for the late filmmaker, one of the last Mohicans whose work continues to impact and inspire audiences today. Starting from humble beginnings, he climbed to the top echelons of Hollywood success through his unwavering determination, strong will, irrepressible energy, charm, and unmatched passion for the art of cinema.
Ruddy, known for co-creating the popular CBS sitcom Hogan’s Heroes, transitioned into film producing with great success. Collaborating closely with director Francis Ford Coppola, he brought Mario Puzo’s novel The Godfather to life on the big screen, earning the prestigious Academy Award for Best Picture at the 1973 Oscars. His second Academy Award in the same category came years later for the 2005 film Million Dollar Baby, featuring Hilary Swank in the lead role.
Al Pacino, who starred in The Godfather, also shared his thoughts on Ruddy in a statement on Tuesday. He expressed his gratitude towards Ruddy for always supporting him during the filming of The Godfather. Pacino mentioned how Ruddy believed in him even when others did not, and how he provided him with much-needed encouragement. Pacino stated that he will always remember Ruddy's kindness and support.
