Michael Easton shared a touching moment from last year when his One Life to Live costar Kamar de los Reyes passed away from cancer. During the Daytime Stands Up: A Benefit for Stand Up to Cancer event, Easton, 57, revealed that he was by Reyes' side, holding his hand as he peacefully passed away. Surrounded by family and friends, there was an outpouring of love for Reyes, who had touched many lives.
Easton mentioned that there were so many people at the late actor's memorial that they were stretched out all the way outside.
He also shared that many individuals who hadn't seen the actor in 20 years attended the memorial, which had a significant impact. Easton noted that numerous cast members from One Life and All American, the sports drama series de los Reyes starred on, came to pay their respects.
Easton reminisced about his long-lasting friendship with Kamar, mentioning that they starred in their first film together in 1990, the action thriller Coldfire.
Reflecting on their bond, Easton shared, "I was timid and reserved, but I was immediately captivated by his confidence and self-assurance. Kamar was truly larger than life. He stood by my side as the best man at my wedding, and I am honored to be the godfather to his son, Michael. His passing deeply affected all of us."

He added, "I think about him every day, remembering his family, his impact on the world, and the contributions he made, not just to the acting community. Acting brought him joy, and he excelled in his craft."
Throughout his battle with illness, de los Reyes remained dedicated to his work, even filming for All American just "two weeks" before his passing. Easton shared, "He remained strong until the very end. He never dwelled on his sickness. Despite the challenges he faced from the start, it's still difficult for me to talk about it. I was amazed by his resilience and determination. I would have given up long before he did."
Easton portrayed John McBain on One Life to Live from 2003 to 2012, alongside de los Reyes, who played Antonio Vega. De los Reyes was part of the show from 1995 to 2009, and Easton also appeared on General Hospital.
De los Reyes passed away in December 2023 at the age of 56 in Los Angeles after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, fellow One Life to Live star Sherri Saum, whom he married in 2007. Together, they have twins John and Michael, both 10 years old. De los Reyes also had a son named Caylen, 26, from a previous relationship.
In his last Instagram post before he passed away, de los Reyes expressed his joy for Caylen's graduation. He wrote, "I always believed you would achieve amazing things, but I never imagined it would be this incredible. I am so proud to have you as my son."
