Metal Gear fans have reason to celebrate with the announcement of the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake and a new Master Collection that promises HD versions of the original MGS trilogy. The title's "Volume 1" hints at more remasters to come, leading some fans to speculate if Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will finally make its way onto modern hardware after years of being exclusive to the PS3. While it remains to be seen how far the Master Collection series will go, Volume 2 could potentially focus on the various portable titles, including Peace Walker, which has already received an HD console port. However, many fans are hoping for a package that includes Metal Gear Solid 4 and other recent entries, as it is one of the most important and acclaimed titles in the franchise and a highly desired remaster project from the past few console generations.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Was Something Special
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots made its worldwide debut on June 12, 2008, captivating players from the very beginning with its animated installation screen. As the ultimate conclusion of the Metal Gear franchise, the game brought back beloved elements as a reward for loyal fans. However, some fantastical elements were over-explained through the use of nanomachines, which has since become a humorous aspect of the game. Despite its reputation for long-winded storytelling, the gameplay of MGS4 was well worth the wait. The gunplay and CQC were greatly refined, the OctoCamo system allowed for ample sneaking opportunities, and each new Act provided a unique gameplay experience. In fact, MGS4 currently holds the record for the longest cutscene sequence in video games, with four consecutive scenes taking 71 minutes to play out.
The Time For A Metal Gear Solid 4 Remaster Is Now
Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid 4 has become increasingly difficult to play in recent times, as it is only available on PS3 or through emulation. With the shutdown of its Metal Gear Online servers, it is nearly impossible to replicate the original experience of playing the game. It is especially disheartening considering that all other mainline titles in the franchise, including Peace Walker and Metal Gear Rising, are available on modern platforms. Metal Gear Solid 4, the culmination of the series, has been left behind.
The new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection offers a glimmer of hope to fans. Bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 to a modern platform would be a momentous occasion, allowing younger fans to experience the thrilling gameplay and unexpected twists unique to the game. After a 15-year-long wait, Metal Gear Solid 4's return may finally be within reach.
