MCU's Future Altered as Loki Creator Tackles New Avengers Movies

Loki's creator's involvement in writing both new Avengers movies signals a monumental shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the Multiverse Saga reaches its grand conclusion

Loki's creator's involvement in Avengers: Kang Dynasty has significant implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is currently in Phase 5 with the recent premiere of The Marvels, the franchise's latest team-up film.

Phase 5 will feature more TV and movies including Echo, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and others in the new year. Fans are curious about the conclusion of this phase, known as the Multiverse Saga, as two new Avengers (Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars) have been promised. The recent announcement of the new writer for the films has significant implications for the future of the MCU.

Loki creator will help the Avengers end the Multiverse Saga

The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki, will be the head writer for Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

Waldron not only brought the Loki series to life, but also penned the screenplay for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a top-grossing film in 2022. He stepped in to take over for Jeff Loveness, known for his work on Rick and Morty and the screenplay for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Loveness’ absence from Kang Dynasty is quite noticeable, especially with Quantumania officially bringing Kang the Conqueror into the MCU as the main antagonist in future Avengers films. On the other hand, Waldron’s Loki series introduced fans to He Who Remains, the original Kang variant, and delved into his motivations for controlling the multiverse in order to "protect" it from his more dangerous variants.

Waldron's involvement in both Loki and Doctor Strange 2 has significant implications for the future of the MCU. Following the events of Loki Season 2, where Loki assumes the role of the new protector of the multiverse, and the connection of the MCU with the X-Men in Doctor Strange 2, the narrative of the entire Marvel universe is set to take a new and exciting direction.

The Marvels further established the X-Men's position in the universe with their post-credits scene, but Waldron had already paved the way for this connection nearly two years prior. Keeping this in mind, Waldron could potentially use Kang Dynasty, the first Avengers film, as a starting point to connect the Avengers and X-Men.

In addition, he possesses the ability and understanding of Loki’s mythology to seamlessly integrate the God of Stories into the narrative, making Loki potentially the most influential figure in the MCU alongside Kang. Following the immense success of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Waldron faces high expectations for these concluding films. But his work suggests that he is not only capable of stepping up to the challenge, but also has the potential to reshape the MCU for years to come.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled about the news that Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki, will be the head writer for Avengers: Kang Dynasty. His involvement in the MCU has been a breath of fresh air, bringing a unique and exciting perspective to the franchise. Waldron's ability to craft complex and compelling stories, as demonstrated in Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, makes me confident that he is the right person to lead the next phase of the MCU.

I am particularly excited about the potential for Waldron to explore the connections between the Avengers and the X-Men. As a fan of both teams, I have been eagerly anticipating their eventual crossover, and Waldron's involvement gives me hope that it will be done in a way that is both satisfying and respectful of both franchises. Overall, I believe that Waldron's appointment as head writer for Avengers: Kang Dynasty is a positive sign for the future of the MCU, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us.
