Diab has full confidence in James Gunn's vision for the DC Universe, commending him as a highly skilled artist and adept writer who will undoubtedly produce exceptional content for DC. Diab emphasizes the importance of not solely focusing on criticizing Gunn, as it could result in losing the support of the DC audience. Instead, Diab anticipates that Gunn will showcase his artistic brilliance by delivering remarkable creations.
Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab expressed his less-than-enthusiastic views on Zack Snyder's films within the DCEU. The reception to Snyder's movies has been polarizing, as some fans feel that they significantly detracted from the integrity of the DCEU and strayed from the original comic book portrayals of the characters. On the other hand, certain DC enthusiasts consider the Snyderverse to be the zenith of DC character adaptations. Notwithstanding a Warner Bros. executive affirming the profitability of Snyder's films, the company decided to steer their future endeavors towards a lighter tone, ultimately appointing James Gunn as Co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran and initiating a reboot of the DCEU into the DCU.
In an interview with Arabic Marvel (translation provided by The Cosmic Circus), Moon Knight director Diab expressed his opinion on Gunn's involvement in the DCU. Diab acknowledged that there are some who do not favor James Gunn, but he personally regards him as a talented artist capable of producing exceptional work. He further stated that he was not fond of the previous period, and although he felt that the last film, Justice League, was an improvement from its initial version, he ultimately did not find Snyder's overall body of work appealing.
Discussing his thoughts on Snyder and his DC movies, Diab expressed his admiration for James Gunn as a filmmaker and writer. He showed faith in Gunn's abilities to excel in the DCU, stating that he preferred Gunn's films and considered him a greater artist. However, Diab also expressed concerns about the potential backlash Gunn might face from the DC audience. Despite this, he acknowledged Gunn's artistic vision and anticipated the creation of remarkable content. As for Moon Knight, the series received high praise, particularly its finale, solidifying Diab's belief in the talented director. Notably, Diab's criticism of Snyder's films was milder compared to his remarks on Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Adam, where he felt that these movies lacked representation of talent from his home country, Egypt.
Gunn's exceptional praise for Gunn and his DCU holds greater significance than his critique of Snyder's movies. DC enthusiasts should anticipate Gunn's forthcoming projects, as an increasing number of artistic individuals voice their excitement for what awaits in Gunn's DCU ventures.
