Maximize the Potential of Your Stadia Controller with Extra Time

Unlock a world of possibilities with the Stadia Controller, now with an entire year to enhance its functionality Embrace the future of gaming like never before

Google has expanded the functionality of Google Stadia controllers, now allowing users to switch from Stadia Wi-Fi mode to Bluetooth mode. This enables the controllers to connect with other devices such as Windows 10, 11, and MacOS 13 PCs with Steam, as well as ChromeOS and Android.

According to the Stadia controller webpage, the option to switch to Bluetooth mode will be available until December 31, 2024. After this date, controllers that have not been switched to Bluetooth mode will no longer have the option to do so, rendering them unusable. This is due to the shutdown of Stadia, which will result in the removal of the Bluetooth mode switching functionality.

The original deadline for the Bluetooth mode switch was December 31, 2023, but Stadia controller owners have now been granted a one-year extension. The updated end date is uncertain, but at least we have some clarity.

Google Stadia ceased operations in January after a three-year attempt to establish itself as a video game platform rivaling PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo. In 2021, Google also closed its in-house video game studios, marking the beginning of the end for Stadia.

Google has ceased offering Stadia-style streaming services to customers and has opted not to proceed with Stadia in any capacity. The controller remains as the only remaining component of the unsuccessful platform, being repurposed as a standard Bluetooth controller.

As a Stadia fan, I am both excited and disappointed by the news that the Stadia controller will now have an extra year to switch to Bluetooth mode. On the one hand, I am thrilled that Google has listened to the feedback from the community and extended the deadline. This gives me more time to explore the potential of the Stadia controller and use it with other devices. I am particularly excited about the possibility of using the Stadia controller with my PC and Steam games.

On the other hand, I am disappointed that Stadia is shutting down and that the controller will no longer be able to be used for its original purpose. I had high hopes for Stadia and was disappointed when it failed to live up to its potential. I am also concerned about the future of the Stadia controller and whether it will continue to be supported by Google. Despite these concerns, I am grateful for the extra time that Google has given us to switch the Stadia controller to Bluetooth mode. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity and explore all that the Stadia controller has to offer.
