Matthew Perry's pickleball coach described the actor as being in "positive and upbeat mood" mere weeks prior to his unexpected passing. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on October 29, pickleball coach Matt Manasse shared, "I believe pickleball served as a form of release for him. It became a passion he was fixated on, and it truly brought him joy."
Perry used to play pickleball four to five times per week before his untimely demise. According to Manasse, Perry appeared to be in a positive and contented state during this time. Manasse expressed happiness that Perry had the opportunity to engage in a sport he loved and be surrounded by people he enjoyed. Perry's presence on the pickleball court brought immense joy to those around him.
Perry achieved fame during his tenure on the renowned NBC sitcom Friends, portraying the character Chandler Bing from 1994 to 2004. He shared the screen with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
According to Manasse, Perry possessed a star quality that is uncommon among most individuals.
"He frequently brought individuals to the court who were experiencing similar challenges and endeavored to utilize pickleball as a means to assist them," Manasse stated. "He was consistently compassionate and had a knack for lifting everyone's spirits with his infectious humor."
Tragically, on October 28th, Perry's lifeless body was discovered in a jacuzzi at a residence in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Coroner's office officially declared his passing on Sunday and the investigation is currently ongoing. At the age of 54, he left this world.
Perry was transparent regarding his battles with substance abuse throughout his lifetime. Following a 1997 jet ski accident, he developed a dependency on Vicodin, which ultimately led to his alcohol misuse. Over the course of several years, he sought treatment in rehab on 15 separate occasions. In his forthcoming book, "Friends, Lovers & The Big Terrible Thing," published in 2022, Perry truthfully discloses that he maintained sobriety solely during the ninth season of Friends.
"You can trace the progression of my addiction by examining my weight fluctuations throughout the seasons. When I am carrying excess weight, it is indicative of my struggles with alcohol. Conversely, when I appear thin, it signifies my reliance on pills. Additionally, the presence of a goatee suggests heavy use of medication," he expressed in his writing. "To truly grasp the extent of these changes, compare my appearance between the concluding episode of season 6 and the opening episode of season 7. Although I am wearing identical attire on both occasions (as the events take place on the same night), I must have shed approximately fifty pounds during the break between seasons."
