Matt Rife's standup comedy routines went viral on TikTok, catapulting him to a massive following. Throughout his career, his family has been his unwavering support, and now, he is reciprocating their support. One relationship that held a special place in his heart was his close bond with his late grandfather, Steve Rife.
"My grandfather played a pivotal role in shaping my upbringing, serving as a father figure throughout my life. Starting from the day I was born, I spent every weekend in his company. In fact, my mother and I resided with him for the initial five years of my existence," Matt revealed in his interview with Numéro Magazine in March 2023. "Even during my teenage years, instead of socializing with friends and engaging in typical adolescent activities, I would eagerly visit his house each and every weekend. He possessed a remarkable sense of humor and was undeniably a comical yet endearing elderly gentleman."
According to Matt, their shared pastime of watching movies together greatly influenced his current sense of humor, allowing it to flourish and evolve.
Due to losing his father at a young age, Matt developed a strong bond with his mother, April Rife. It should be noted that his father passed away by suicide when Matt was just a baby.
During a discussion on the "2 Bears, 1 Cave" podcast in October 2023, Matt reminisced about attempting to convey his success to his mother. He expressed, "My mom, she still doesn't fully comprehend. She does understand that she now has a home. I reassured her, saying, 'Hey, things are going really well. I want to ensure your well-being, so you won't have any future financial burdens. I want to buy you a house.'" Interestingly, within "nine days" of this conversation, his mother began sending him links to different lavish residences.

During the podcast, he playfully shared, "My mom resides in a flat where she indulges in smoking inside the bathroom." Chuckling, he continued, "She sends me a link to a lavish $3.5 million residence, boasting nine bedrooms and horse stables. I mean, she doesn't even know nine individuals! Who on earth would occupy such an extravagant abode?"
Ultimately, he opted for a more affordable four-bedroom dwelling as a gift for his mother.

Matt's comedy career was jumpstarted by his late grandfather Steve. As a teenager entering the comedy scene, Matt would take to the stage at numerous comedy clubs for open mic nights. A condition for performing was that each comedian had to sell five tickets, and without fail, his loving grandpa would purchase all five for him. Reflecting on this unwavering support, Matt revealed during an episode of the "2 Bears, 1 Cave" podcast, "In his eyes, I was incapable of doing any wrong."
Matt announced the heartbreaking news of his beloved grandfather's passing on Instagram in November 2022. In a poignant post, he expressed, "Today, I had to say goodbye to my dearest companion, my grandfather Steve️. Undoubtedly, he was the most remarkable individual I have ever encountered, and my love for him knows no bounds. Every moment of joy I have brought to others can be attributed to his influence."

“My mom is 48 years old, she’s always injured, always. She has vertigo,” he joked on the “2 Bears, 1 Cave” podcast, when discussing buying his mom a house.
