Planning district layouts in Cities: Skylines 2 can become complex rapidly. Utilizing basic grids helps minimize the uncertainty in the process and allows for easy expansion when required.
Creating neighborhoods solely composed of grids is a simple approach for beginners in Cities: Skylines 2. Although grid-based districts may lack charm, they provide a platform for new players to understand and test different city designs. The key is to determine the optimal size of the grids to maximize the available space.
Cities: Skylines 2 - Best Grid Sizes
When designing districts, it is important for players to consider space efficiency and pedestrian connectivity. While there are various approaches to grid sizing, it is advisable to avoid leaving vacant spaces within the districts when aiming for maximum density.
For achieving maximum density, a grid size of 112x112m is considered ideal. This square shape is versatile and suitable for all types of districts. It allows for ample building space while ensuring smooth movement for vehicles and pedestrians. Additionally, these small box shapes are highly adaptable and can be easily adjusted to accommodate small service buildings such as hospitals and high schools.
A larger alternative to this is the 312x88m grid size, which is suitable for accommodating much larger institutions such as universities and transport hubs. When expanded, it can also be utilized to create residential districts with parks, parking spaces, and other utilities, resulting in neighborhoods with high land value. This layout bears a resemblance to the grid system found in New York.
The third grid option falls in between the first two grids, measuring 112x88m. It is slightly more compact than the first option and proves ideal for developing limited spaces. The use of 112x88m blocks allows for easy modifications to fit most service and utility buildings without compromising the overall shape and uniformity of a district.
These grid sizes are not mandatory, but they provide a solid foundation for any city. Once players become familiar with these grid sizes, they can explore creativity by combining square and rectangular blocks to form unique districts. Remember to allocate space for service buildings, as they may not always fit within the prescribed grid sizes. Additionally, players should be aware that the game may occasionally fail to fully fill a block with usable building tiles. This could be due to uneven terrain or a system glitch. In such cases, players may have no other option but to accept this limitation.
