Mastering Stardew Valley: The Ultimate Guide to Acquiring and Managing a Variety of Animals and Livestock

The enchanting world of Stardew Valley revolves around farming, and the presence of vibrant farm animals and livestock adds to its charm. These animals bring life to the virtual farm, making the gaming experience more immersive. With a range of options available, players can choose from loyal pets to resourceful livestock.

In Stardew Valley, taking care of farm animals is essential for obtaining fresh produce like eggs and milk, which can be sold for profit. Each type of animal requires a specific building to provide them with shelter. As a result, the animals in Stardew Valley are categorized into two groups: Coop Animals and Barn Animals.

How to Get All Coop Animals

A Coop, available for purchase from Robin at the Carpenter's Shop, is a farm building option for players. This building can be further improved to a Big Coop or a Deluxe Coop. The initial cost of constructing a Basic Coop is 4,000g. Upgrading it to a Big Coop will cost 10,000g, while upgrading it to a Deluxe Coop will amount to 20,000g. The Coop can accommodate the following animals.

Chicken

Chickens, which can be purchased from Marnie’s Ranch for 800g, are diminutive, feathered creatures found in farms. These delightful beings lay eggs daily, their frequency increasing as they experience greater levels of happiness. Additionally, chickens can be hatched from Eggs by placing them within an Incubator.

Chickens come in three colors: White, Brown, and Blue. Unlocking Shane's eight-heart event is necessary to obtain the blue variety. Brown chickens lay brown eggs, while white and blue chickens produce white eggs. Selling a regular white or brown egg will fetch 50g, whereas a large white or brown egg can be sold for 95g.

Duck

Ducks, water-loving birds, reside in a spacious Big Coop, where they frequently indulge in swimming in various water bodies on the farm. These delightful creatures lay eggs every other day when they're content. If players wish to add Ducks to their collection, they can purchase them from Marnie's Ranch for 1,200g. Alternatively, Ducks can be hatched by placing a Duck Egg inside an Incubator.

Ducks produce Duck Eggs which players can sell for 95g and Duck Feathers, which can be sold for 250g.

Rabbit

Deluxe Coop is home to adorable rabbits that are known for their soft and fluffy nature. These lovely creatures can be acquired from Marnie’s Ranch and come with a price tag of 8,000g. Once these rabbits mature and are well-fed, they generously shed Wool every 4 days, which can be sold for a profitable sum of 340g. Additionally, when these rabbits are particularly happy, they have the potential to produce a valuable item known as a Rabbit’s Foot, which carries a base sell price of 565g.

Dinosaur

Dinosaurs are a unique type of livestock that reside in the expansive Big Coop. These extraordinary creatures are not available for purchase at Marnie's Ranch; instead, they can be obtained by hatching Dinosaur Eggs using an Incubator. The incubation process typically lasts around 12 in-game days. Once fully matured and adequately nourished, dinosaurs have the ability to lay highly valuable Dinosaur Eggs every 7 days, which can then be sold for 350g.

How to Get All Barn Animals

Players can acquire a Barn, a farm building, from Robin at the Carpenter's Shop. The Barn can be enhanced to either a Big Barn or a Deluxe Barn.

For a Basic Barn, the overall construction expense amounts to 6,000g. To upgrade it to a Big Barn, players will need to invest 12,000g, and for a Deluxe Barn, the cost increases to 25,000g. The Barn provides accommodation for various animals.

Cow

Cows, which are iconic farm animals, are commonly kept in a Barn. Players have the option to buy a cow from Marnie’s Ranch for 1,500g. There are two types of cows to choose from: white cows and brown cows. Adult cows produce Milk on a daily basis, and the color of the Milk remains the same regardless of the color of the Cow. Once a Cow reaches a certain level of happiness, it starts producing Large Milk. In order to collect Milk from a Cow, a Milk Pail is necessary. Regular Milk can be sold for 125g, while Large Milk fetches a higher price of 190g.

Goat

Playful farm animals called goats reside in the Big Barn. These delightful creatures can be acquired from Marnie's Ranch for 4,000g. Once mature and well-nourished, goats produce Goat Milk every 2 days, which can be sold for 225g. As their happiness level increases, goats begin yielding Large Goat Milk, boasting a base sell price of 345g. Much like Cow Milk, one can collect Goat Milk using a Milk Pail.

Sheep

Sheep, the gentle and cuddly farm animals, require the comfort of a Deluxe Barn. To acquire these adorable creatures, players can visit Marnie’s Ranch and make a purchase for 8,000g. The adult sheep can be sheared to gather Wool, for which a pair of Shears can be obtained from Marnie’s Ranch at the cost of 1,000g. The wool coat of a mature sheep regrows completely every 3 days, provided it has a minimum happiness level of 70. Wool can be sold at a base price of 340g.

Pig

Ostrich

Ostriches, the majestic egg-laying birds, can be comfortably housed in a Barn. Unfortunately, they are not available for purchase at Marnie’s Ranch. To obtain an ostrich, you must use an Ostrich Incubator to hatch an Ostrich Egg. The incubation process takes around 9 in-game days. Once the ostrich is mature and properly fed, it can produce an Ostrich Egg every 7 days. These eggs can either be used to hatch more ostriches or sold for 600g.
