With the game's expansive nature, it comes as no surprise that Starfield offers a comprehensive upgrade system for players' fleet of ships. Right from the start, players are presented with endless possibilities, as they step foot on their first vessel. Starfield is specifically designed to empower players to create their own dream spaceship.
Initially, the upgrade system, which consists of various modules, may feel overwhelming. Even locating the system itself can prove to be a challenge. However, this guide aims to simplify the process by breaking it down into straightforward steps. By following these steps, newcomers to Constellation can swiftly explore the vast field of stars, and aspire to go even further.
Where to Upgrade Ships in Starfield
The Ship Services Technician at a landing/launch pad is the most convenient way to upgrade the different modules on a ship in Starfield. The first encounter with this technician will take place at the New Atlantis pad while playing Starfield's main story. To successfully locate him, keep an eye out for the green Trade Authority kiosk along with a prominently displayed 'Ship Services' sign. The technician will be positioned directly to the left of the kiosk.
Outside of New Atlantis, the Ship Services hub can typically be located adjacent to the landing areas outside prominent cities. The provided visual representation showcases the service facility situated outside Cydonia, a significant urban center on Mars. When arriving at a novel destination, it is crucial to remain vigilant, as these hubs provide a plethora of benefits beyond mere upgrades.
How to Upgrade a Ship in Starfield
To enhance a ship, simply seek out the Ship Services Technician and initiate a conversation. Choose the "I wish to examine and customize my vessels" alternative from the menu. This will transport the player to the Ship Overview interface, where they can utilize both the Ship Builder and Ship Upgrade features.
At the bottom right of the Ship Overview screen, players will find a selection of prompts. Press A to enter the Ship Upgrade system.
Once in the upgrade menu, notice the row of upgradeable modules near the bottom of the screen. Players can upgrade the following categories:
Weapon Zero: The main weapons system, controlled with the right trigger button.
Weapon One: The secondary weapons system, controlled with the left trigger button.
Weapon Two: Final weapons system, controlled with Y (Missiles on the Frontier).
Engines: Determines the ships speed and acceleration. Overall mass will affect performance.
Shields: Generates the protective barrier around the ship
Grav Drives: Determines how far the ship can jump between systems.
Reactors: Decides the power supply of the ships.
To access additional options in the upgrade menu, the player needs to press the right button on the d-pad. The Grav Drives and Reactors sections are often overlooked.
Please carefully examine the various choices available for each module. Take note of the advantageous outcomes (shown in blue) as well as the detrimental effects (highlighted in red) of every selection. The corresponding price for each item is indicated on the right-hand side of its name. The total expense for the upgrade will be calculated and deducted at the final stage of the procedure.
As players make their way further into Starfield, they will unlock increasingly potent upgrades. Ultimately, they will be able to possess a completely personalized fleet, surpassing anything encountered in the vastness of space.
