Easily upgrade and modify road directions in Cities: Skylines 2 with simple steps Learn how to replace two-way roads and change the direction of one-way roads for smoother city planning

In Cities: Skylines 2, one-way roads play a vital role. They effectively minimize traffic congestion by directing vehicles to move in a single direction. Additionally, these roads encourage smooth traffic flow by guiding through traffic to utilize the primary two-way roads.

Right from the beginning of Cities: Skylines 2, players have the ability to construct one-way roads. Each road size offers its own range of one-way options, which become available as the game progresses. However, it is important for players to specify the desired direction for a one-way road during its construction or replacement, although the method differs slightly from the original game.

The replacement tool in Cities: Skylines allows players to easily change existing roads. Within the road construction tool, players can select different modes, including the "Replace" mode. This mode enables players to swap out one type of road for another. While adjusting to the new road size may require relocating service buildings, overall, this feature is highly convenient.

Additionally, players can use the replacement tool to switch between two-way and one-way roads, as well as increase or decrease the number of lanes. For example, the previous two-lane, two-way road can be transformed into a three-lane, left-turning one-way road using the replacement tool.

In the previous installment of Cities: Skylines, players had the ability to change the direction of a one-way road by clicking on the replacement tool twice. However, this feature has been removed in the sequel, resulting in a more convenient way to avoid unintended road direction changes when making adjustments to local streets.

Now, players need to activate the replacement tool, choose the desired one-way road type, and hold down the mouse button while hovering over a road segment. During this action, players must move the cursor in the direction they wish traffic to flow.

The arrows on the road should be changed to face the intended direction. Repeat this process for each road segment until the entire stretch is facing the correct direction. If players overlook a segment, a warning popup should appear above it.

Please note that the road construction tool now has a new feature that remembers the tool mode for each road size separately. Keep this in mind to prevent accidentally replacing a feeder road with a small one-way residential street when attempting to expand a neighborhood.

Cities: Skylines 2 is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
