Mastering Metal Gear Solid 2: Unleashing Precision Chokeholds

Mastering the art of choking enemies is essential for tactfully neutralizing opponents without inflicting fatal harm in Metal Gear Solid 2

In Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, players must strategically utilize their limited resources while navigating the Tanker and Big Shell. This entails mastering the art of unarmed combat to effectively defeat enemies without wasting ammunition, when possible. Snake and Raiden possess the necessary skills to take down their adversaries without relying on weapons as they traverse through the Tanker and Big Shell, respectively.

Though snapping necks is a straightforward task in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, players aiming to subdue opponents without lethally incapacitating them, and without resorting to tools like the tranquilizer pistol, may find it slightly more challenging. This is particularly true since rendering foes unconscious by choking them requires patience and precise timing.

How to Choke Enemies

Mastering Metal Gear Solid 2: Unleashing Precision Chokeholds

In Metal Gear Solid 2, to choke an enemy, players must first unequip their current weapon by tapping the weapon inventory button. Once unarmed, they can press and hold the weapon button to grab an enemy in front of them. It is important to note that Snake/Raiden will only grab when not moving, so players must release the analog stick before pressing the weapon button to ensure a successful grab. (Pressing the button while holding the stick in any direction will result in Snake/Raiden throwing the target to the ground).

Once the enemy is grabbed, players can release and tap the weapon button 5-6 times to start choking the target. It is crucial to then continue holding down the button to avoid releasing the target. Pressing the weapon button excessively after the sixth input may result in snapping the target's neck. After applying some pressure by pressing the button a few times, players should hold it down and wait for the target to struggle. When the target begins to struggle, players should release and press the button again to interrupt their struggle and resume choking. Repeat this process of interrupting struggles until the enemy falls unconscious. At that point, Snake/Raiden will automatically release the unconscious target to the ground.

Unconscious targets have the potential to regain consciousness but can be prevented from doing so by placing them in a locker. This tactic avoids killing them while effectively removing them from the area. When confronted with patrolling enemies in an area the player must pass through, choking them proves to be a superb method of elimination without the need for lethal force or wasting ammunition.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty can be played on various platforms including PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
