In Starfield, the game primarily takes place in space or on low gravity planets, making the presence of jet packs, known as Boost Packs, integral. These widely used propulsion devices are not only advantageous in combat situations but also useful for reaching inaccessible areas.
Unfortunately, players initially do not have access to a Boost Pack when they begin Starfield. However, it doesn't take long for them to acquire one. Nevertheless, accessing and utilizing the Boost Pack requires unlocking a particular skill, unless the player chose the Bounty Hunter or Soldier Background at the game's outset.
How to Get a Boost Pack in Starfield
The simplest method to acquire a jetpack in Starfield is by completing the One Small Step main story mission, which grants players the Constellation Pack as a reward. Alternatively, players can simply scavenge bodies and wait patiently for a chance encounter, which tends to happen fairly often. While engaging the Crimson Fleet on Kreet, players have a high likelihood of stumbling upon one, although loot drops are random, so there are no guarantees even if players choose to eliminate Brogan instead of convincing him to surrender.
How to Use Jet Packs in Starfield
Upon equipping a Boost Pack, players might be taken aback to discover that its functionality is not as expected. This arises from the requirement for players to have acquired the Boost Pack Training skill beforehand, ensuring their ability to utilize a Boost Pack in the realm of Starfield. This fundamental skill is innate to players who opt for either the Soldier or Bounty Hunter Background during the game's initiation. Alternatively, it can be obtained from the Tech skill tree for a single skill point following the initial level up.
Players who have unlocked this skill and equipped a Boost Pack can activate it by pressing the jump button while airborne. Each Boost Pack has unique capabilities in terms of boosting capacity and recharge rate. Generally, rarer Boost Packs outperform others in both aspects. Similar to other skills in Starfield, Boost Pack Training has four ranks, each granting players improved abilities and buffs related to the Boost Pack.
Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
