Neopteron & Neopteron Materials OverviewHow to Get Neopteron Supplies
Using Neopteron in Monster Hunter Rise is different from other items. Its location cannot be searched beforehand, and players must gather materials from small monsters, specifically bugs, to fulfill the requirement for crafting Neopteron-related equipment at any Blacksmith.
There is a limited number of weapons and armor that require Neopteron Materials for crafting, but it can still cause frustration among players. Many Hunters have searched for ways to find Neopteron, only to be confused when they can't obtain it from carving the recommended Small Monsters. This is due to Neopteron being a classification of creatures in the Monster Hunter world, rather than the name of a specific Material. This classification includes insectoids like Bnahabra, Altaroth, and many others.
Updated on October 2nd, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: Understanding how to farm specific materials is an essential aspect of Monster Hunter, just like slaying monsters. In every Monster Hunter game, including the mobile versions, players constantly encounter new equipment and materials they are unfamiliar with, leading them to seek out ways to obtain those materials. In Monster Hunter Rise, Neopteron is one such example that can be particularly confusing, especially until reaching late High-Rank. At first glance, it may appear to be a single item, but it is actually a classification of multiple items. Now, let's delve deeper into what Neopteron materials are in Monster Hunter Rise, where they can be found, and how players can intentionally farm them.
Neopteron & Neopteron Materials Overview
To delve further into the depths of Neopteron, it serves as a classification for Material types that enable weapon upgrades to the next version. For instance, to enhance the Secta Nulo I Sword and Shield in the weapon's 'Bnahabra Tree', it requires 6 Points or 'units' of Neopteron Materials, in addition to the necessary Materials for Secta Unu. The term 'Neopteron' essentially refers to insect-like creatures, specifically those with tough exoskeletons. In Monster Hunter Rise, the following species fall under this classification:
Name | Type | Typical Location |
---|---|---|
Hornetaur | Small Monster | The Jungle, The Citadel |
Vespoid | Small Monster | The Jungle |
Altaroth | Small Monster | Shrine Ruins, Frost Islands, Sandy Plains, Flooded Forest, Lava Caverns |
Bnahabra | Small Monster | Shrine Ruins, Frost Islands, Sandy Plains, Flooded Forest, Lava Caverns |
There are numerous insectoid creatures in the Monster Hunter franchise, but only these appear in Monster Hunter Rise. They can be compared to the broader species of creatures, such as Kelbi, Popo, Anteka, Slagtoth, Kestodon, Rhenoplos, and Gowngoat, all classified as 'Herbivores'.
Interestingly, despite being classified as Neopteron Small Monsters, the Materials obtained from Hornetaur and Vespoid do not contribute to the basic Neopteron Upgrade requirements.
How to Get Neopteron Supplies
There are numerous ways to obtain Neopteron materials, especially with the addition of more Neopteron Small Monsters in the Sunbreak expansion. However, Neopteron materials are primarily required for Low-Rank gear, as High Rank gear requires Neopteron+ and Master Rank gear requires MR Small Monster Materials (which include a different type of Neopteron material).
To acquire these materials, players can focus on killing Altaroth and Bnahabra in the Low-Rank versions of each base Rise map and collecting their materials through carving. While players can search for these insects on each map or memorize their spawn locations, the most efficient method is to complete the 2-Star Village Quest 'Case of the Creepy Crawlies' to farm them. This quest requires players to slay a total of 14 Altaroth or Bnahabra and will mark their locations on the map, eliminating the need for players to hunt them down individually.
Best Methods For Farming Neopteron Small Monsters
It should be noted, however, that the process of carving these bugs is a bit more cumbersome than simply attacking them until they perish. In essence, these creatures can shatter into irreparable fragments if subjected to the wrong type of damage or other external factors, rendering them uncarvable. Therefore, in order to guarantee that every slain Neopteron creature is usable, Hunters should adhere to the following guidelines:
Tip | Explanation |
---|---|
Use Kunai | When players use Kunai to get the finishing blow on an insectoid, it seems to have a much lower chance of causing this 'explosion'. |
Stop Palico & Palamutes From Interfering | Because the AI of the player's Palico or Palamute tends to auto-target anything 'hostile' near the player, oftentimes they'll attack any nearby Neopteron-type species and explode them. To prevent this, use the 'Wait' Buddy Command whenever a Neopteron species is nearby. |
Bring Poison Smoke Bombs | By far the best method for farming these creatures, as the Poison Smoke Bombs kill the Neopteron-type creatures after a short duration, and they'll fall to the ground without exploding 100 percent of the time. |
Use Blunt-Type Damage | There are different damage types in Monster Hunter Rise, such as Blunt and Cutting damage. Using specifically Blunt or Impact damage against these insects also seems to reduce the chance of them exploding. |
How To Actually Use Neopteron
Now, as mentioned before, the main purpose of these Materials is not for crafting new weapons. Instead, their primary use is to enhance a weapon at the Blacksmith, advancing it to the next level in the weapon trees. Consequently, here is a comprehensive list of all the weapons that will require Neopteron for an upcoming upgrade.
