In order to initiate the Blacksmith's Blues 2 side quest in Final Fantasy 16, Clive needs to open the "About Blackthorne" letter on his Reading Table. August, who is worried about Blackthorne's change in behavior, asks Clive to look into the matter. However, players can only access this quest after completing all three Letting Off Steam sub-objectives during the Out of the Shadow main quest.
How To Complete Blacksmith's Blues 2 In Final Fantasy 16
Upon embarking on the side quest, Clive should exit his chambers and make a left turn into The Black Hammer. Inside, Clive will find Blackthorne vigorously hammering on his anvil. Interacting with Blackthorne, Clive will learn that the skilled blacksmith had recently come across a blade that made him doubt his own abilities. Once their conversation concludes, Clive can return to the Main Deck to seek out Charon. Charon will inform Clive that she had indeed sold the mysterious blade to a man named Lord Ignac.
To locate Lord Ignac, Clive must utilize the fast-travel option to reach The Dalimil Inn, situated a short distance southwest of The Hideaway. Upon arrival, he must venture into the tavern on the right-hand side and ascend the staircase, triggering a cutscene. Conferring with Lord Ignac's companion, Clive learns that the coveted blade he seeks has been pilfered by a notorious bandit gang.
To retrieve the blade, Clive needs to exit The Dalimil Inn via The North Gate and head northeast until reaching the upper right corner of the map. If Clive has already finished The White-Winged Wonder side mission, he can expedite his journey by summoning his Chocobo and riding it to this area.
Upon Clive's arrival in this sandy corner, he will encounter a formidable adversary group consisting of three Level 30 Bedmakers and a stronger foe called The Innkeeper, who also boasts a Level 30 status. It is crucial for Clive to prioritize neutralizing the Bedmakers as they heavily rely on projectile attacks. Fortunately, The Innkeeper's slower and more predictable assaults should pose little threat to Clive, unless he is inadequately leveled. Hence, Clive should be able to vanquish The Innkeeper with relatively little difficulty.
Once all adversaries have been vanquished, Clive will be swiftly transported back to The Dalimil Inn, where he shall duly restore what the nefarious bandits had pilfered from Ignac. Although Clive's pursuit of the coveted blade remains unfulfilled, he is nonetheless bestowed with a precious artifact known as the Sundered Whetstone, a crucial tool in its creation. As the captivating cutscene draws to a close, Clive can expediently journey back to The Hideaway and engage with Blackthorne in order to transfer the esteemed Sundered Whetstone to his possession.
After receiving the Sundered Whetstone, Blackthorne rewards Clive with the Excalibur Design Draft and 1 Meteorite. With this design draft, Clive can create the Excalibur sword, but only if he has 300 Wyrrite, 1 Grimalkin Hide, 1 Bomb Ember, and 1 Scarletite. The Blacksmith's Blues 2 side quest concludes after Clive and Blackthorne finish their conversation.
