In their journey through the Buried Temple, Starfield players will encounter various Starborn guardians. While most of them can be handled with relative ease, they will face a significant obstacle towards the end — Guardian Fionn and an army of never-ending duplicates, blocking their path to the final Artifact.
While some players may instinctively retreat towards the elevator to avoid getting surrounded, this strategy would prove to be a critical error. This is because Guardian Fionn adopts a defensive stance rather than launching direct attacks, compelling Starfield players to take the offensive approach.
How to Beat Guardian Fionn at the Buried Temple
One crucial aspect to consider regarding the Guardian Fionn encounter is that the duplicates he summons are equipped with the same weapon as the player. Therefore, it is highly recommended to swiftly switch to a melee weapon at the start of the battle. By doing so, and assuming continuous movement, players can effortlessly evade any potential harm. Consequently, they can then concentrate their efforts on locating Guardian Fionn by remaining alert for the presence of the blue quest marker.
Fionn is usually found at the back of the cavern, often perched on top of the towering rock stalagmites protruding from the ground. Like players, he wields a melee weapon, so when they approach him closely, he typically charges forward, providing an opportunity for players to unleash several powerful attacks of their own. If players have sided with the Hunter and completed the Infinity's End mission beforehand, they can utilize The Last Priest to inflict substantial damage during this moment. Otherwise, they should resort to using their strongest melee weapon.
Depending on the player's unlocked skills and the chosen difficulty, Fionn has the ability to absorb a significant amount of damage, especially if players prefer close combat. To expedite the process, players can temporarily equip a powerful gun or rifle, but caution should be exercised to ensure Fionn's exact location is identified first. It is important to be prepared for the duplicates to commence shooting as soon as the player takes action.
After defeating Guardian Fionn, all the duplicates will vanish, and players can proceed through the door in the rear of the chamber to rendezvous with the Hunter and the Emissary. Opting to engage in the final boss battle instead of skipping it, it is advisable to equip a melee weapon as there will be duplicates once again. This tactic proves even more effective this time, as the final boss(es) will be the sole source of gunfire, enabling easier tracking of their teleportation movements.
