Bungie attempts to address the challenging difficulty of Grandmaster Battlegrounds in Destiny 2 through Update 7.2.0.5 to make the experience somewhat easier for players.
In Destiny 2's seasonal content, Battlegrounds have gained popularity. However, when they were added to the Grandmaster rotation, the response was mixed due to their high difficulty level. In response to player feedback, the studio has made adjustments. The latest patch focuses on reducing the number of enemies in specific combat areas of the Heist Battleground on Mars, particularly for higher difficulty levels. This addresses player complaints about the excessive enemy density experienced in Grandmaster Battlegrounds.
The addition of Battleground Heists to Destiny 2's Grandmaster rotation significantly increases the difficulty, prompting Bungie to address this in Update 7.2.0.5 and other patches. Grandmaster strikes offer a more challenging experience where players can obtain top-tier PvE loot outside of raids and dungeons, specifically the adept Nightfall weapons that change weekly. However, feedback from players regarding the difficulty of Grandmaster battlegrounds in the current and previous seasons has led the studio to make adjustments to make the experience somewhat more manageable.
Battlegrounds have been a fundamental part of Destiny 2's seasonal content since their introduction in the Season of the Chosen, instantly becoming popular among players. While they have been slightly adapted to fit each season's theme, the activity typically involves three players engaged in a chaotic fight against significantly denser enemy forces compared to strikes, raids, and dungeons. Season of the Witch did not introduce any new Battlegrounds, although elements of its gameplay can be found in Savathun's Spire and Altars of Summoning.
While Battlegrounds initially gained popularity upon introduction, their inclusion in the Grandmaster rotation was met with mixed reactions from the game's community. The difficulty posed a challenge, prompting the studio to address this in the latest update. According to the patch notes for Update 7.2.0.5, the combatant count and frequency in Heist Battleground Mars, the current Grandmaster Battleground, will be reduced for select encounters in higher difficulty levels. This means that in certain combat spaces, players will face fewer enemies when the Heist Battleground is set to a higher difficulty, such as master or grandmaster.
Since the inclusion of Heist Battleground Mars in the Season of Defiance, many players have been frustrated with the increased enemy density in Grandmaster Battlegrounds. The combination of stronger enemies and a large number of them has turned the activity into a tedious chore. The addition of Battlegrounds in the Season of the Deep and Season of the Witch only amplified these complaints.
It is uncertain how the latest patch will impact the current Grandmaster rotation in the Battlegrounds. At the time of writing, the patch has only been active for a few hours, and players are still facing difficulties due to ongoing DDoS attacks on Destiny 2. It will likely take several days for players to accurately gauge the effectiveness of this change in Grandmaster Battlegrounds.
Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
