After scouring the town’s Church, the book needs to be recovered and promptly returned to Barrett. As a result, players will receive a Cheap Pole as a token of appreciation.
This request can be accepted by engaging with the town's Bulletin Board and accepting the quest titled "Fishing Lessons from the Master." Upon doing so, the player should proceed to Carmen at Carlos' Resort located on the beach. There, they will be provided with the Cheap Pole and receive personalized fishing instructions.
Purchase or Forge at Blacksmith Shop
How to Fish in RF3:S
: An alternative option for the player is to visit either Gaius or Raven at the blacksmith’s shop and purchase a Cheap Pole. This option proves useful when the player is eager to obtain a fishing pole but has already fulfilled a character request for the day. Additionally, the player has the option to craft a Cheap Pole at the Forge, although it is highly probable that the player has already acquired a fishing pole prior to unlocking the Forge. In Rune Factory 3: Special, fishing follows a familiar concept for fans of farming or life simulation games. As players can obtain their initial Fishing Pole early on in the game, they have the opportunity to venture to various fishing spots and embark on their fishing journey right away. To start fishing in Rune Factory 3: Special, follow these straightforward steps:
Head to any body of water and look for shadows of fish
Press B to release to cast the line into the water, aiming near the fish.
When the bobber is nibbled by a fish, it will generate a noise. However, refrain from reeling in at this moment. Once the fish securely bites, the fishing rod will be tugged, accompanied by a distinct sound, while the fish creates splashes in the water.
Press the B button when you hear the sound to catch the fish.
When using a Fishing Pole of higher quality, players have the option to charge their cast by holding down the B button. This will result in casting the line further, increasing the chances of finding rare fish. Furthermore, charging the cast enables players to cast closer to a fish's shadow, reducing the distance required for it to approach and potentially bite.
How to Upgrade a Fishing Pole
During the act of fishing, players may come across particularly elusive fish that pose a noteworthy challenge to catch. The successful capture of these rare fish calls for impeccable timing, as players must swiftly press the B button at the precise moment when the fish takes the bait, leaving little room for error. Failing to react promptly will result in the escape of the prized fish. To enhance their likelihood of securing such valuable catches, players are advised to regularly upgrade their fishing pole.
In RF3:S, players have access to a selection of five distinct Fishing Poles. However, crafting each pole requires the player to attain a certain level of Forging Skill. By upgrading to a superior Fishing Pole, players can increase their chances of catching high-quality fish. This is achieved by expanding the time frame in which the player can successfully reel in a fish.
Once players have unlocked and built the Forge, they can upgrade their fishing poles. To do this, players need to clear the game's first dungeon, Privera Forest, and travel to the second dungeon, Sol Terrano Desert. They must then speak with Kurana at the Univir Settlement.
After completing these steps, the Sharance Tree will grow a second floor, allowing players to purchase the Forge, Workshop, and Pharmacy. Players can visit the blacksmith Gaius (or Raven) and pay 5,000 Gold and 100 Wood to have the Forge constructed.
Each Fishing Pole can be created by combining the previous Fishing Pole with several collectible materials. Additionally, players must have reached the necessary Forging skill level, which can be increased by forging any items.

Tips for Catching Fish in RF3:S
If players are struggling with fishing in Rune Factory 3: Special, here are some helpful tips. Instead of focusing on the bobber in the water, they should pay attention to the tip of their fishing pole. The bobber will dip a few times before the fish actually bites, so it's important not to be fooled and reel in too early.
There are various sizes of fish, distinguishable by their shadow size, that players can identify. Generally, the biggest shadows represent rare or special fish that necessitate exceptional skill and/or a superior fishing pole to capture.
Every fish has designated locations for catching and may only appear during specific seasons. To discover which fish are currently in season, players can consult Carmen or Carlos at Carlos' Resort.
