In Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of the Patriots, players can control Solid Snake and Raiden as they navigate through the Tanker and the Big Shell. During these parts of the game, players have the opportunity to collect Dog Tags from enemy soldiers. These Dog Tags serve as both collectibles and a way to unlock special items.
This guide will provide instructions on how to obtain Dog Tags from enemies in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of the Patriots, as well as outline the rewards for collecting them. It is important to note that different Dog Tags can only be obtained at specific difficulty levels. Therefore, players who wish to collect all Dog Tags will need to complete the game on every available difficulty setting.
How to Get Dog Tags
Your browser does not support the video tag.
To obtain an enemy's Dog Tags, players must first hold them at gunpoint. Approach the enemy closely, preferably from behind, and aim the gun at them by pressing the designated aim button (L1 for Playstation, LB for Xbox).
Once in position, players should then lower the gun (click the left analog stick) and reposition themselves in front of the guard. Once again, point the gun directly at their head or crotch from a first-person perspective. This will induce panic in the guard, causing them to shake. After a brief moment of shaking, the guard will relinquish their Dog Tag.
What Is Unlocked Using Dog Tags?
Some adversaries may not be easily frightened by Snake/Raiden and may need additional persuasion. This can be achieved by discharging a round into either their arms or legs, firing into the vicinity of their location, or restraining them at gunpoint using a powerful weapon such as the RGB6 or the Stinger.
Unlock new items in future playthroughs by obtaining Dog Tags at the conclusion of either the Tanker or Plant section. Check out the complete list of unlockables below:
Players are required to successfully complete the respective section by collecting the designated number of Dog Tags in order to gain access to a locked item. Once unlocked, these items can be utilized in subsequent playthroughs.
Unlockable | Number of Dog Tags | Unlock Point |
Bandana (Snake, Infinite Ammo) | 46 Dog Tags | Finish the Tanker Section |
