Massacre in Russian-Occupied Donetsk: Ukrainian Family of Nine Brutally Murdered in their Sleep

Tragic massacre in Russian-occupied Donetsk as a family of nine, including two young children, are brutally murdered in their sleep, leaving a devastated community in the eastern Ukrainian town of Volnovakha in the Donetsk region

In the Russian-occupied eastern Ukrainian town of Volnovakha, a shocking incident has occurred. A family comprising of nine individuals, including two young children, has been discovered brutally murdered in their own home. This heinous act has caused widespread anger in Ukraine and has prompted investigations from both countries. Heart-wrenching images released by the Ukrainian Donetsk Region Prosecutors Office depict the grim aftermath of the crime scene, where family members were found shot while in their beds, embracing each other, with traces of blood staining the walls.

Ukraine claims that the family was murdered by Russian occupying forces after a dispute, while Russian authorities assert that two Russian soldiers have been detained in connection with the homicides.

Since Moscow's ruthless invasion of its neighboring country the previous month, Russian forces have been occupying Volnovakha since March 2022.

Earlier this month, the Donetsk Region Prosecutors Office in Ukraine stated that individuals wearing military attire approached a family residing in a house and demanded that they evacuate the premises to make space for a Russian army unit. According to the office's preliminary findings, when the homeowner refused, the assailants allegedly threatened physical harm to the family members before departing.

Gunmen came back days later and shot all nine family members while they were asleep, as stated by the Ukrainian prosecutors office. They have launched a pre-trial investigation into criminal proceedings for the violation of laws and customs of war.

Two Russian servicemen were apprehended on Monday by Russian investigators regarding the killing of nine individuals in Volnovakha. The accused individuals have been identified as contract-based military personnel from the Far East, as stated by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the self-proclaimed Donetsk Peoples Republic.

An investigation has been initiated regarding the "killing of nine individuals, including two children, in the town of Volnovakha, with their bodies discovered in a private residence and showing gunshot injuries," stated the committee. Russian investigators indicated that the preliminary evaluation suggests the motive behind the crime was a domestic dispute.

The committee stated that the suspects have been apprehended and transported to the investigative department for the purpose of conducting thorough investigative and procedural measures to uncover all details regarding the incident, as well as gathering substantial evidence.

During this month, Ukrainian forces have successfully resisted a new offensive by Russian forces in eastern Ukraine, while residential areas continue to be targeted by Moscow's military. In light of this, Ukraine has issued mandatory evacuation orders for civilians, especially children residing in regions near the front lines in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
