Marvel's "horror" MCU trailer has been released just in time for Halloween, but the Disney-owned studio is facing heavy criticism for it. Some may argue that 2023 has been a terrifying year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as flops like Secret Invasion and Ant-Man 3 have put a dent in their previously successful track record.
The studio, despite having successful releases like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Loki Season 2, is unlikely to be associated with horror. This could be the reason for the mockery surrounding its latest trailer.
Marvel roasted for its “horror” MCU Halloween trailer
In order to generate buzz for Halloween, Marvel Studios released a promotional video showcasing a collection of eerie MCU scenes. This includes the menacing villains and chilling elements from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Werewolf By Night.
Additional titles like Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man also make an appearance. Alongside the message, the studio presented the clip, stating: "This Halloween, delve into the deepest corners of the Marvel Universe. Stream these titles and more on @DisneyPlus."
While the clip is functioning, numerous fans are severely criticizing the MCU. One user on X/Twitter expressed their disbelief, stating, "Horror in the MCU...is that even a joke? Should I find it funny?" Another individual made a sarcastic remark, remarking, "Every aspect of the MCU nowadays is simply dreadful."
A third person jokingly responded, "So, basically nothing at all then," as a fourth person added, "I might have to resort to sharing that Spongebob clip of the kid's roller coaster." A fifth individual joined the conversation, asserting, "None of you truly grasp the concept of horror."
