What If…? Season 2 – December 22, 2023
It can be quite exhausting to stay updated on all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows, that's why we've compiled a comprehensive list of every project along with its confirmed or speculated release date for your convenience.
Season 2 of Disney+ What If…? will further delve into the multiverse. The Marvel Cinematic Universe ventured into animation with the series, showcasing the likes of Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter, zombies, a universe where Ultron emerged victorious, and in its standout episode, Doctor Strange triggering the collapse of his own reality.
Despite the mixed reception of the first season, Marvel wasted no time in approving a new set of episodes. Showrunner A.C. Bradley hinted to Entertainment Weekly, "The thrill of What If…? is that we have the opportunity to delve into the vast, infinite multiverse, so we aim to explore as much as possible. I'm eager to delve into all these characters, and as much as I adore Captain Carter, we need to spread the love. I'm thrilled to introduce new worlds and new heroes."
Echo – January 9, 2024
Disney+Echo will follow the events of Hawkeye on Disney+
Alaqua Cox made her first appearance as Maya Lopez in the Disney+ show Hawkeye last year. After the series ended, with Lopez dealing with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, news broke that she would star in her own solo series called Echo.
The spinoff will center on Lopez as she takes on the role of the crime-fighting hero Echo, with D’Onofrio reprising his role as Wilson Fisk and Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil, following his brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
X-Men 97 – Early 2024
Marvel/Disney+X-Men 97′ will continue the iconic cartoon.
X-Men: The Animated Series is set to make a comeback on Disney+ in 2023, nearly 30 years after its debut. A second season has already been confirmed for the beloved cartoon, which will pick up where the original series left off. Fan-favorite characters such as Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Jubilee, and Cyclops will all be included, with a new twist as Magneto takes the lead.
Deadpool 3 – July 26, 2024

The transition of Deadpool into the MCU has been the subject of much speculation and concern. While the arrival of the X-Men and Fantastic Four is highly anticipated and expected to be controversial, Deadpool remains a unique and unpredictable addition.
Despite doubts from some, it is confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be joining the MCU, with the script being written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin, known for their work on Bob’s Burgers. Ryan Reynolds will also reunite with director Shawn Levy, who previously worked on Free Guy and The Adam Project.

The announcement of this series was made during the most recent Disney+ Day, where it was revealed alongside X-Men ’97. This new show will be a continuation of the original animated series, and it is important to note that it will be the first Marvel Studios project not overseen by Kevin Feige and will not be part of the MCU continuity.
Marvel Zombies – TBA 2024
Deadline has described it as "a fresh animated series tracing Peter Parker's journey to becoming Spider-Man, paying homage to the character's original comic book origins," with Jeff Trammel taking the lead as head writer.
The upcoming Disney+Marvel Zombies series will expand upon the events of the first season of What If…?
In Episode 5 of What If…? Season 1, Hank Pym inadvertently triggers a zombie apocalypse while trying to save Janet Van Dyne, who has been infected with a quantum virus. The episode concludes with Peter Parker, Scott Lang, and T’Challa journeying to Wakanda, unaware that it has fallen to a zombified Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.
At last year's Disney+ Day, Marvel Studios announced the upcoming Marvel Zombies series. The series, described by Deadline as an animated reimagining of the Marvel Universe, will follow a new generation of heroes as they combat a spreading zombie scourge. Written by Zeb Wells and directed by Bryan Andrews, it will also be the first Marvel show to receive a TV-MA rating.
Captain America: New World Order – February 14, 2025
Disney+Anthony Mackie will return as Captain America in his own movie.
In the final scene of Avengers: Endgame, an aged Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) entrusted the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). In Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we witnessed Wilson's struggle with the idea of becoming the new Captain America, but he ultimately embraced the role and took flight.
Mackie has officially agreed to portray Captain America in his own solo film, which will be directed by Julius Onah, known for directing The Cloverfield Paradox.
Nate Moore, a producer at Marvel Studios, likened the new Cap to "Rocky," emphasizing that he will be the underdog in any situation. Without super strength or the support of the Avengers, he will have to prove himself and face overwhelming challenges.
Fantastic Four – May 2, 2025

Since Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, there has been much speculation surrounding the future of The Fantastic Four. The latest reboot in 2015 was a disaster and it's unlikely that Miles Teller will return as Mr. Fantastic. The project was announced in 2019 with Jon Watts set to direct, but updates have been scarce since then. Watts has since stepped away from the project in April of this year.
John Krasinski made a memorable appearance as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, only to meet a tragic end at the hands of Scarlet Witch. Whether he will return for the team’s official introduction remains uncertain, and no other casting has been announced. The film is set to be released on May 2, 2025, marking the beginning of the MCU’s Phase Six.
Thunderbolts – July 25, 2025
Marvel ComicsThunderbolts, one of several mysterious upcoming Marvel movies and shows, will be the studio’s answer to The Suicide Squad.
The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn, has been hailed as one of the top movies in the DCEU. Marvel is now creating their own villainous team-up film called Thunderbolts, with Jake Schreier as director and Eric Pearson as the scriptwriter. The team is named after General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, portrayed by the late William Hurt. It is uncertain if the film will introduce a new actor for the role or if there will be alterations to their origins.
Blade – November 7, 2025
No actors have been confirmed at this point, but according to Deadline, there are several potential casting options: Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Abomination (Tim Roth), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Wesley Snipes was last seen portraying Marvel’s beloved Daywalker in Blade: Trinity. In the near future, the MCU will introduce its own iteration of the vampire hunter, with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali taking on the role. Ali's portrayal was first hinted at in the post-credits scene of Eternals, where Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) is shown gazing at the Ebony Blade.
Ali received Snipes' blessing, who described him as "a beautiful and talented artist" and expressed excitement to witness his expressions for years to come. "Blade" is set to be released as part of the MCU's Phase Five on February 14, 2025.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – May 1, 2026
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the first of two Avengers movies in 2025.
The biggest announcement from the 2023 Comic-Con is that Phase Six will feature not one, but two Avengers movies.
The first film, titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, will be the first Avengers film since 2019's Endgame and is expected to focus on the villain Kang the Conqueror, who made his debut in Ant-Man 3 after appearing as He Who Remains in Loki. However, a recast may be necessary for the role as Jonathan Majors is no longer playing the part due to being found guilty of assault.
No other cast, plot, or crew details have been shared at the time of writing.
Avengers: Secret Wars – May 7, 2027
Rumors about the Secret Wars have been circulating for years.
The upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars will bring to a close one of the biggest double whammies in the MCU, scheduled to release six months after The Kang Dynasty hits theaters. Fans can anticipate a cliffhanger similar to the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions style.
Ironheart – Currently off schedule
Despite the fact that Cretton is helming The Kang Dynasty, there is still no director confirmed for Secret Wars. Kevin Feige has rejected speculation that the Russo Brothers would be coming back, even though they have expressed their excitement for the project.
In Black Panther 2, the character MarvelIronheart was initially introduced.
The impact of Tony Stark's death continues to have repercussions throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The loss of Netflix's beloved MCU shows still stings, especially with the absence of Daredevil, with Charlie Cox portraying the iconic Man Without Fear of Hell's Kitchen.
Spider-Man: No Way Home caused a stir in cinemas worldwide with Cox's character making a brief cameo as Peter Parker's lawyer. Shortly after, Variety announced that a Daredevil series is in the works for Disney+, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord set to write and produce. Daredevil: Born Again will feature Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin and will consist of 18 episodes.
Shang-Chi 2 – TBA

The movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced martial arts to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last year, Disney announced that Destin Daniel Cretton had signed a multi-year deal to write and direct Shang-Chi 2, although no release date has been confirmed. Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Meng'er Zhang are all expected to reprise their roles in the sequel. The first film hinted at future interactions with the Avengers, but the plot of the sequel remains unknown.
Kevin Feige spoke with Comic Book and expressed, "We have plenty of ideas for where to take them and place them. It's exciting to see that the movie is successful when people are not only interested in the main character, but also the co-stars and supporting players. In this particular movie, it's encouraging to see the interest in the supporting cast, as we believe they are outstanding and have great potential for the future."
Armor Wars – TBA

Development for Armor Wars started in 2011 when Don Cheadle announced plans for a War Machine movie. Nearly a decade later, Kevin Feige revealed a Disney+ series for Armor Wars, with Cheadle returning as Rhodey. The original concept was described as a "classic Marvel story" that explores Tony Stark's worst fear becoming a reality. However, the project has now transitioned back into a feature-length film, with the Disney+ series being cancelled in favor of a theatrical release. Consequently, Armor Wars is now among the awaited Marvel movies without a confirmed release date.
Spider-Man 4 – TBA

Spider-Man: No Way Home provided a satisfying end to the Homecoming trilogy by bringing back Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s characters and their villains. The movie concluded with Tom Holland’s hero living alone in New York, grappling with financial struggles and swinging through the city anonymously, creating a fresh start. While Kevin Feige confirmed a fourth film is in development, Tom Holland has been noncommittal about reprising his role, stating, "I don’t know whether I’m going to be a part of it… if [the next chapter] happens to be with me, then that’s very exciting but, you know, if it’s time for me to walk away then I’ll do so proudly."

The latest update from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about the development of the Wonder Man series, with Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton partnering with Andrew Guest from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community to bring one of Marvel's original characters to television.
Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams, was first introduced in the comics in 1964 as a rival to Tony Stark. He gained his "iconic energy" powers from Baron Zemo and went on to have numerous encounters with the Avengers before eventually joining the team and creating its West Coast division.

The character's connections to Vision and Scarlet Witch are very strong, but it remains uncertain whether he will have a substantial role in the future of the franchise. No casting or release date has been announced.

People are eagerly awaiting the debut of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite Kevin Feige's confirmation of mutants coming during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, details have been scarce ever since.
Last year, Feige told Collider that the introduction of mutants has been the subject of extensive discussion. He expressed confidence in the direction and timing of this introduction, but indicated that details are still forthcoming. The MCU has already incorporated characters from 20th Century Fox's past films, such as casting Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, only to have Scarlet Witch kill him soon after. Additionally, it seems that Ms. Marvel's storyline confirms Kamala's mutant status, so it appears that the inclusion of mutants in the MCU is inevitable.

Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is working on a series set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda. The series will feature Danai Gurira reprising her role as Okoye. Initial reports suggested that two separate Wakanda-based shows were in development for Disney+, with one being an "origin spinoff" for Okoye. However, Marvel has not confirmed any details at this time.

Deadline reported in March that Marvel is working on a Nova project with writer Sabir Pirzada, known for his work on Moon Knight. Many fans anticipate that the series will focus on the origin of Richard Rider's Nova, a New York teenager who receives cosmic powers from a dying member of the Nova Corps.

As a hard fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I am thrilled about the upcoming movies and TV shows. The MCU has been a dominant force in pop culture for over a decade, and it shows no signs of slowing down. I can't wait to see what new adventures and stories the MCU has in store for us.
I am particularly excited about the upcoming Echo series on Disney+. Alaqua Cox's portrayal of Maya Lopez in Hawkeye was fantastic, and I am eager to see more of her story. I am also looking forward to the return of Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin and Charlie Cox as Daredevil. These two actors were excellent in the Netflix Marvel shows, and I am glad they are returning to the MCU.
