Marvel CEO Kevin Feige has authoritatively distinguished which Marvel TV shows fall under the canon category and which ones exist in a separate realm.
Within the extensive Marvel Cinematic Universe, comprising numerous films and TV shows, lies a vast wealth of lore.
But now, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige has addressed the matter and established a definitive distinction between the Marvel TV shows that are considered canon within the wider MCU and those that are not.
Feige places certain Marvel TV shows into the Sacred Timeline
in the newly released Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe An Official Timeline book, Feige alone penned the preface.
Feige clarifies in his letter that the utilization of Marvel characters and storylines in a show or movie does not instantly classify it as a component of the MCU's Sacred Timeline.
"In terms of the Multiverse, we acknowledge the existence of stories - both films and series - that hold canonical status within Marvel but were crafted by distinct storytellers in different eras of Marvel's past," Feige explained. "The timeline outlined in this book pertains exclusively to the Sacred Timeline of the MCU throughout Phase 4."
“But, as we move forward and dive deeper into the Multiverse Saga, you never know when timelines may just crash or converge (hint, hint/spoiler alert).”
Feige mentions series such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, and Inhumans, which were not directly supervised by him and his team.
Since these projects exist outside the official MCU timeline and take place in separate universes, Feige is not bound to follow the creative decisions made within these stories.
Sidelining these stories enables the official MCU timeline to remain intact, as maintaining continuity becomes increasingly challenging with the addition of seventeen more projects.
