Marketing Agency Acquires Gen Z-Focused Firm in Expansion Move

This acquisition marks the establishment of a specialized division, Next Gen, within the marketing agency to better serve the strategic requirements of the elusive Gen Z demographic.

UTA Acquires JUV Consulting to Form Next Gen

UTA has recently acquired JUV Consulting, a consultancy that focuses on Gen Z, to create Next Gen. This new practice will be a part of UTA Entertainment Marketing division. The financial details of the deal have not been made public.

JUV, founded in 2016 by Gen Zers, has collaborated with numerous brands such as Google, Unilever, and E.l.f. Beauty, focusing on research and engagement with young consumers. They have also organized the ZCON conference, set to carry on under the Next Gen banner.

UTA, originally a talent agency, has expanded its services to cater to corporate partners through UTA Advisory, which includes offerings like MediaLink. This shift reflects the growing need for tailored solutions for Gen Z, a demographic that has shown resistance towards traditional advertising.

UTA's Expansion into Marketing Services

UTA has expanded its reach in the marketing services sector by acquiring JUV and establishing Next Gen. By acquiring JUV, UTA now has access to valuable insights on a key consumer group, a wide range of brand clients, and a conference brand.

The new division is aimed at strengthening the entertainment marketing arm of the talent giant, which has already attracted top companies like General Motors, Delta Air Lines, and The Coca-Cola Company. In 2021, UTA acquired MediaLink, a strategic advisory firm in the media industry, for $125 million.

Marketers continue to find it challenging to reach Gen Z, who are becoming more financially independent as they grow older. UTA mentioned in their announcement that studies predict Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, will soon have a purchasing power of around $150 billion.

Gen Z, the digitally native generation, has become accustomed to spending time on ad-free or ad-light channels like streaming and gaming. They are seen as more selective and less loyal than older consumers, placing a higher value on brand values linked to social causes. JUV, led by Gen Zers, aims to tackle these challenges directly by offering a range of services including market research, educational sessions, strategic marketing, and creative support.

The company's website states, "We are a purpose-driven Gen Z community that collaborates with clients to help them better engage with young people. We believe that in order for brands to truly understand Gen Z, they must engage in conversations with us, not just talk about us."

JUV was co-founded in 2016 by CEO Ziad Ahmed and CMO Shaina Zafar, while Maia Ervin serves as chief impact officer.
