Michael Sopejstal, a resident of Illinois, regularly makes the trip to Michigan to dine at his beloved restaurant. During his visits, he always makes a point to purchase a Lucky for Life ticket for either 10 or 20 draws, as reported by the Michigan Lottery.
However, on September 17, a mishap occurred at a GoLo gas station when the retailer mistakenly printed a ticket with 10 lines for a single draw, Sopejstal informed the Lottery. Despite the error, Sopejstal insisted on keeping the ticket.
One morning, he checked his ticket and was shocked to find out that he had won $25,000 a year for life, he informed Lottery officials. His mind immediately began racing with ideas on how he could use the money and whether he should take the lump sum or annuity option. It was an incredible experience!
According to the Lottery, the 60-year-old recently went to the Lottery headquarters to collect his prize. He decided to go with the one-time lump sum payment of $390,000 instead of receiving $25,000 annually for 20 years or for life, whichever is greater.
Sopejstal informed the Lottery that he intends to use his winnings for travel and to save the remaining amount. Lucky for Life is available in approximately twenty-four states and Washington, D.C. Prizes vary from $3 to a top prize of $1,000 per day for life.
The overall odds of winning for each game are posted on the games website. Sopejstals odds of winning five white balls on September 17 were 1 in more than 1.8 million.
