The Manchester United trailblazer, Zidane Iqbal, has successfully made the switch to FC Utrecht.
At the age of 20, Iqbal, who progressed through the Manchester United academy, has officially become part of the Dutch team after both clubs finalized the transfer agreement last week.
Iqbal created history in December 2021 by making his debut for Manchester United in the Champions League match against Young Boys, becoming the first British South Asian player to achieve this milestone. Additionally, he is believed to be the first player of Iraqi heritage to represent the club.
Having made a strong impression during the team's pre-season tour and their mid-season break in Dubai, the Mancunian featured on United's Premier League bench seven times in the previous season.
Content: Iqbal, born to an Iraqi mother and Pakistani father, spent over ten years at United. He began his journey with the club's development squads, progressed through all age groups, and eventually made his debut in the Champions League representing the first team.
Despite never being chosen for England in his youth, it was disclosed exclusively by us last year that Iqbal would be honored with a cap by Iraq. This news came after he had signed a new contract with United the previous season.
Iqbal, now an established international player for Iraq, was previously unable to represent Pakistan due to a FIFA ban enforced because of third-party interference. However, their international status has now been restored.
Iqbal: I will always love Manchester United
In an emotional farewell to Manchester United, Iqbal wrote:
"Manchester United has been my home since I was five years old, shaping me into the person I am today. Alongside my family, this remarkable club has been instrumental in my development.
"From the early days at the Cliff to the later years at Carrington, and ultimately to the iconic Theatre of Dreams (Old Trafford), I cherish the countless unforgettable memories I've made during my 15-year journey with this extraordinary club."
I have been fortunate to play alongside numerous teammates who have become lifelong friends and have had the privilege of working with coaches who have consistently provided me with valuable support in various ways.
There are numerous individuals to express gratitude towards. From the kitmen, physiotherapists, educators, chefs, nutritionists, security personnel, coaches, and all others involved, each has played a significant part in shaping the player I have become today. They are well aware of their contributions and the profound impact they have had on me and my family. We will always be immensely thankful.
The Academy is a remarkable place where countless dreams are realized. I experienced this firsthand. I will always remember the exhilaration I felt as I stood on the touchline at the Theatre Of Dreams (OT), waiting for my debut. The sense of pride that accompanied that moment will forever be ingrained in my memory.
To represent Manchester United in Europe is a tremendous honor, one that holds immense significance in a person's career. Many fail to comprehend the immense effort and unwavering commitment required to achieve that much-awaited debut and make their dreams a reality.
The support and love from the fans on that day was truly incredible. I am grateful for the unwavering support you have given to me and my family. Your gestures did not go unnoticed and I wholeheartedly appreciate them. I will forever remain a loyal fan of United and will continue to have a deep love for this football club.
Now is the perfect moment to embark on a new adventure and face a fresh challenge. I am eagerly looking forward to it and will approach it with the same passion, determination, and commitment that have brought me this far in my professional journey.

Iqbal shattered a glass ceiling both for South Asians and Iraqis, realising the dreams of millions across the world in addition to his own when he made his United debut.
The midfielder has had a long-standing connection with United for more than ten years. He has dedicated most of his life to the club, and today, it's coming to a conclusion on his own terms.
Iqbal had the opportunity to choose the easier path and bask in the prestige of being a Manchester United player. He has trained alongside renowned individuals such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro in recent times and was on the verge of making his Premier League debut for the club.
However, Iqbal has turned down this opportunity and instead decided to relocate to Utrecht. Interestingly, Utrecht is a club that United manager Erik ten Hag has both played for and managed in the past. By choosing this move, Iqbal joins the growing list of players who are looking to jumpstart their careers by venturing to the continent.
