Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 7.
Summary
In Ahsoka episode 7, it is unveiled that Leia Organa assumes the role of the New Republic Defense Council's leader, overseeing the military's political aspects.
Leia's absence in Ahsoka episode 7 is likely attributed to the challenge of incorporating the late Carrie Fisher's presence either through CGI, as seen with Luke Skywalker, or through recasting. This resulted in a C-3PO appearance instead.
Ahsoka episode 7 introduces the potential for Leia to make an appearance in The Mandalorian era, as she supports Hera and acknowledges the danger of Thrawn's potential return. Ahsoka episode 7 marks the second mention of Leia Organa in the series, leaving fans curious about her whereabouts in the Star Wars timeline and whether she will appear in future episodes. While a significant portion of the episode takes place on the planet Peridea in another galaxy, the beginning of the episode follows up on Hera Syndulla and Carson Teva. After embarking on an unauthorized mission depicted in Ahsoka episode 5, Teva and Syndulla face a New Republic tribunal led by Chancellor Mon Mothma to determine their punishment, if any.
Hera pleaded her case with Mon Mothma, specifically Senator Xiono, regarding the imminent threat of Thrawn's return. However, despite her efforts, Hera and Carson faced discouragement as Xiono remained resolute on court marshaling Hera for her disobedience. A potential outcome similar to Ahsoka episode 7 seemed imminent. Unexpectedly, a significant character from the Star Wars universe, namely C-3PO, intervened at a crucial moment. The protocol droid delivered a message from Senator Leia Organa, stating that she had authorized Hera's mission. This cleared the charges against the New Republic General and in turn, raised questions about Leia's potential presence and activities during Ahsoka's era in the Star Wars timeline.
Senator Leia Organa Is Leader Of The New Republic Defense Council
During Ahsoka episode 7, it was revealed that Leia holds the position of the head of the New Republic Defense Council. This particular council was also brought up in Ahsoka episode 1, where Hera mentioned the need for her to report to this governing body. With this revelation, it becomes evident that Leia is responsible for overseeing the political aspect of the New Republic's military. This aligns perfectly with Leia's background in the Rebel Alliance during the original Star Wars trilogy and her subsequent role as a general in leading the Resistance against the First Order.
Why Isn't Leia In Ahsoka Episode 7?
The absence of Leia in Ahsoka episode 7 raises questions about her role. An explanation for this absence could be the complexity of including Leia. Carrie Fisher, the actress who portrayed Leia, sadly passed away in 2018. Without Fisher's return, the process of bringing back Luke Skywalker in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett becomes much more challenging. Additionally, Lucasfilm may be hesitant to recast Leia with another actress out of respect for Fisher's iconic portrayal. As a result, the simpler solution for Ahsoka episode 7 was to have Anthony Daniels appear as C-3PO, allowing Leia to still have a presence in the Star Wars timeline.
Ahsoka Episode 7 Sets Up Leia's Role In The Mandalorian Era
Although it was challenging to portray Leia in Ahsoka episode 7, the storyline has effectively laid the groundwork for a possible future appearance by the senator. Ahsoka's actions indicate that Leia is supportive of Hera and her situation, suggesting that she also recognizes the potential danger of Thrawn's return. In the future of The Mandalorian era, it is plausible for Leia to make an appearance if Thrawn resurfaces in the Star Wars galaxy.
