Major Shake-Up in Store for Family Guy after 20 Years

Family Guy undergoes a groundbreaking transformation after 20 years, defying its traditional format Prepare for a revolution as the iconic Fox animated series takes a bold step in a new direction

The Simpsons may be dominating the news lately, but another beloved Fox animated series, Family Guy, has recently made a major change. Since its debut in 1999, Family Guy has aired 22 seasons and over 400 episodes featuring Peter, Lois, and the rest of the gang. In addition to the show’s success, there have been reports of live-action remakes and fan-made parodies.

The beloved animated family, The Simpsons, made headlines recently with the idea that Homer may no longer strangle Bart, a long-running gag since 1989. Now, it's Family Guy's turn to shake things up with a major change after over two decades of defining the show.

Family Guy set for big change in over 20 years

For the first time in 20 years, Family Guy is no longer airing its episodes on Sundays.

The show has always been broadcast on Sundays, except during its second and third seasons from 1999 to 2002.

Starting November 2023, the show will be aired on Wednesdays, but the response from fans has been less than favorable.

One fan expressed their concern on X/Twitter, saying "That’s how it started when they got canceled in 99 or whatever." Another fan stated "It made more sense on Sundays."

"Why change things after more than 20 years? Some speculated that the move could be due to declining ratings," questioned a third fan. "2023 seems to be the year where corporations are competing to make the most foolish decisions," added another fan.

"A fan recalled that the Simpsons also changed time slots and eventually returned to Sundays. Another fan argued that moving a TV show to a different day is often a sign that it is at risk of getting canceled. For a small number of Family Guy fans, it appears to be positive news that the show is not permanently leaving us."

One fan expressed their shock at the news of Family Guy's departure, saying "Saw the tweet and had a freaking heart attack." Another fan shared the sentiment, adding "For a second I thought it was getting canceled and my heart rate increased." Be sure to explore our other TV & Movies hubs below.

Editor's P/S

1. I am a huge fan of Family Guy and have been watching it since it first aired in 1999. I am excited about the show's upcoming move to Wednesdays, as I think it will give it a chance to reach a new audience. I am also curious to see how the show's format will change, as it has been on Sundays for most of its run. I am confident that the show will continue to be successful, as it has a strong fan base and a talented cast and crew.

2. I am also a bit sad to see Family Guy move from Sundays, as it has been a staple of my Sunday night routine for many years. However, I am excited to see what the show will do in its new timeslot. I am hopeful that the move will be successful and that the show will continue to be a hit for many years to come.
