The upcoming MCU movie Blade has been in a state of uncertainty for a while, but the main star's recent comments have given fans hope. The film has faced several challenges during its development for the MCU.
Rumors circulated that the main character might be a descendant of Blade instead of Blade himself. Additionally, there were reports of a tight budget, changes in directors, and numerous delays, some of which have not been confirmed or denied. Despite the uncertainties, one reassuring aspect is that Mahershala Ali, the actor playing Blade, remains optimistic about the project.
Mahershala Ali is “working” on developing Blade
Ali provided a positive update on the superhero-vampire hybrid flick in a recent interview with EW: "We're working on it. That's the best I could tell you," he explained. "I'm really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we'll be back at it relatively soon.
"I'm genuinely excited about the current state of things, the team in place, and the leaders in charge of the scriptwriting and directing," the actor declared. "That's all I can share at this point." Ali has previously taken on the role of Blade in the MCU, with a brief voice appearance in the post-credits scene of 2021's Eternals.
In 2019, Blade was announced to be in production with director Bassam Tariq and screenplay writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, a release date of November 3, 2023 was revealed. However, frustrations arose during production, leading to Tariq being replaced by Yann Demange as director and Michael Green taking over the screenplay.
The release date for Blade has been subject to further changes. Originally set for September 2024, the film is now anticipated to be released on November 7, 2025, as a result of Marvel's scheduling adjustments and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year, which disrupted many Hollywood productions. Despite these delays, fans of Blade can hopefully expect a big screen debut in the foreseeable future as production continues.

Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled to hear about the progress being made on the Blade movie. Mahershala Ali's dedication to the role and his positive comments about the project's direction fill me with excitement. The MCU has a history of delivering high-quality superhero movies, and I believe Blade will be no exception. I can't wait to see Ali bring the iconic vampire hunter to life on the big screen.
The challenges that the Blade movie has faced during development are understandable, given the complexity of the character and the MCU's high standards. However, I appreciate Marvel's commitment to getting it right and taking the time to ensure that the film lives up to fans' expectations. The changes in directors and screenwriters may have caused some delays, but I trust that Marvel has made the best decisions for the project. I am confident that the final product will be worth the wait.
