There's nothing new about musical adaptations of books, TV shows, and movies. Broadway is revisiting the past with a musical version of Back to the Future, and it won't be long before we see a Die Hard adaptation. Actually, that's already happening. So, it's no surprise that a musical based on the 1987 cult classic vampire film The Lost Boys is now officially in production. Deadline reports that Patrick Wilson, James Carpinello, and Marcus Chait, along with a book by Michael Arden, David Hornsby, and Broadway actor Chris Hoch, are on board for the adaptation.
The music for the production will be performed by pop-rock band The Rescues, with Ethan Popp (known for his work on Tina: The Tina Turner Musical) serving as Music Supervisor. Casting and a production timeline have not been announced yet. The original The Lost Boys movie, directed by Joel Schumacher, centered on two brothers who relocate to a new town and uncover its vampire-infested nature. The film resulted in two direct-to-video sequels and two comic book series. A third sequel was announced in 2021, but no further developments have been reported thus far.
The musical will also be produced by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, so it could feature some of the original film's score by Thomas Newman.

As a Gen Z fan, I'm thrilled to hear about the upcoming musical adaptation of The Lost Boys. The original film is a cult classic that holds a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to see it brought to life on stage. I'm confident that the creative team behind the musical will do justice to the original story while also adding their own unique spin on it. I'm especially excited about the music, which will be performed by pop-rock band The Rescues. I think their sound will perfectly capture the dark and atmospheric tone of the film.
I also appreciate that the musical will be produced in special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, which means that it could feature some of the original film's score by Thomas Newman. This is a great way to pay homage to the original film while also creating something new and exciting. Overall, I'm incredibly excited about the Lost Boys musical and can't wait to see it when it comes to town.
