The highly acclaimed arcade shoot 'em up game, Radiant Silvergun, developed by Treasure, has finally been given a release date for its upcoming launch on the Steam PC platform. Fans can look forward to enjoying this title in November. Originally released in arcades and later on the Sega Saturn in 1998, Radiant Silvergun is widely regarded as one of the best games on the Sega Saturn and a timeless masterpiece in the 2D shoot 'em up genre. Its popularity helped revive the genre in the Western gaming market after a decline throughout the 90s.

Initially exclusive to the Sega Saturn, Radiant Silvergun remained limited to this platform until 2011 when it was ported to the Xbox 360 marketplace. However, it would take another 11 years for the game to be playable on another platform. Finally, in 2022, Radiant Silvergun was released on the Nintendo Switch, providing both new and old gamers with the opportunity to experience this classic Shmup. Earlier this year, Treasure announced that Radiant Silvergun would be making its way to PC via Steam, although a specific release date was not provided at the time. However, a recent update suggests that gamers will soon have the chance to relive the excitement of Radiant Silvergun.

When Does Radiant Silvergun Release on Steam?

Radiant Silvergun's release date was announced online, revealing that the game will be available on Steam on November 3, 2023. This PC port of the title is based on the Switch version developed by Live Wire in collaboration with Treasure. In contrast to the Switch version, the PC version offers players the choice between a "Classic" and "Modern" gameplay experience, with the "Classic" mode closely resembling the Sega Saturn/Arcade versions of Radiant Silvergun.

Accompanied by additional settings, this classic mode allows players to personalize their experience and recreate the nostalgic presentation of the past. For instance, the aspect ratio of the game can be adjusted to 4:3, simulating the appearance of an old CRT monitor. The gameplay mechanics of Radiant Silvergun, where players must vanquish multiple waves of enemies using an array of diverse weapons, remain unchanged. Upon defeating specific enemies, players can earn significant bonuses, thereby increasing their total bonus points.

This version of the game will also feature a gameplay mode that modifies the mechanics of Radiant Silvergun to mimic Ikaruga, another influential 2D Shump game. Ikaruga is often regarded as a spiritual successor to Radiant Silvergun, as it was created by the same team at Treasure. Unlike the Switch version, this mode will be accessible right from the beginning.
