Loki Pruned Himself To Fix His Time-Slipping From S2E1
Loki season 2, episode 4, uncovered that the current Loki was responsible for pruning the Loki from episode 1, thereby fulfilling Ouroboros' scheme to cure his time-slipping. OB's strategy involved Mobius utilizing Loki's Temporal Aura Extractor at the Temporal Loom, which required Loki to prune himself in order to remove him from the timeline and stabilize his time-slipping. Regrettably, just before executing their plan, Loki unintentionally time-slipped into the future - the same timeframe as episode 4 - without a Time Stick, leaving him unable to prune himself. However, fortunately, the Loki from episode 4 retained these details and was ultimately revealed to be the one who pruned himself from the beginning.
How Loki Pruning Himself Fits The Themes Of Season 2
The concept of the ouroboros is a central theme in Loki season 2. It not only refers to Quan's significant role as a TVA technician, but also symbolizes an ancient image of a snake or dragon forming a circular loop by devouring its own tail. This symbolic motif permeates every aspect of the Phase 5 series, as Loki season 2 itself exemplifies an ouroboros. An evident illustration of this is Loki's act of pruning himself in episode 1, ensuring his survival in the future so that he can eventually prune himself from the past.
