Sophia Di Martino made her debut as Sylvie, a female variant of Tom Hiddleston's Loki, in Phase 4's Loki season 1. Together with the God of Mischief, she embarked on a journey to uncover the truth about the Time Variance Authority and seek revenge for the theft of her life. In the final episode of Loki season 1, Sylvie successfully completed her mission by killing He Who Remains, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, thereby triggering the multiverse in the MCU. Di Martino reprised her role for Phase 5's Loki season 2, which found Sylvie in a vastly different situation.

After the demise of He Who Remains in the Citadel at the End of Time, Sylvie managed to return to Earth and ended up in a branch of McDonald's in Broxton, Oklahoma in the year 1982. However, Loki season 2, episode 1, titled "Ouroboros," failed to showcase Sylvie's cathartic meal at the fast-food joint. Nevertheless, raychelwho, an artist, has shared new artwork that visualizes what Sylvie's first liberated feast might have looked like.

In the MCU fan art, Sylvie indulges in cheeseburgers, a filet-o-fish, and fries, displaying her immense joy in being able to unwind and enjoy a meal after a lifetime of concealing herself within apocalypses.

Why Sylvie Works At McDonald's

Sylvie, after killing He Who Remains in Loki season 1, disregarded his warnings about the consequences of his death. She felt relief for completing her lifelong mission since being captured by the TVA. In episode 1 of Loki season 2, it was revealed that Sylvie used He Who Remains' TemPad to travel to Broxton, Oklahoma in 1982. Upon finding a McDonald's, Sylvie recognized her newfound freedom, as she had granted free will to all beings in the multiverse.

Therefore, in Loki season 2, Sylvie works at McDonald's because she now has the freedom to choose her own path. She longed for a normal, ordinary life, which she believed she could achieve by working at McDonald's. The director of Loki season 2, Dan Deleeuw, explained that McDonald's was selected because of its timeless nature and familiarity, allowing viewers to quickly understand Sylvie's mindset. By aligning herself with the staff at McDonald's, Sylvie hoped to attain a sense of normalcy in her life.
