Many of the successful MCU shows on Disney+ have flourished by embracing their own distinctive styles. WandaVision, for instance, fully embraced the sitcom genre by incorporating the iconic style from each era, resulting in a refreshingly unique narrative. Similarly, the first season of Loki felt akin to an installment of Doctor Who in many aspects, particularly with the inclusion of the TVA and Loki's time-hopping adventures. From what can be gathered from its trailer, Loki season two seems to maintain this same level of distinctive style, injecting a whimsical twist into the MCU, a franchise that has been sorely lacking in novelty in recent years.

Loki Season 2 is leaning toward a wilder story

The conclusion of Loki's first season hinted at a grander and more chaotic narrative for its second installment, which is alluded to in the somewhat ambiguous trailer. In the season finale, Sylvie eliminated He Who Remains, also known as a variant of Kang, who believed that eradicating other versions of himself was necessary for the well-being of the universe. Consequently, the TVA underwent significant changes, with statues of another Kang proliferating as the multiverse fully ruptured. Although the season two trailer does not directly address these developments, it does feature Loki and Mobius embarking on another investigation of undisclosed nature, one that will involve encounters with alternate versions of Loki and, notably, another Kang variant. Additionally, the trailer unveils the introduction of Zaniac, a distinctive and formidable new villain who will undoubtedly contribute to the even greater madness of the second season.

Loki season 2 is helmed by two rising star directors

Season 2 will be spearheaded by a fresh directing duo, as Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead step in to take the helm. Benson and Moorhead have previously collaborated on various projects, including V/H/S: Viral, The Endless, and Synchronic (featuring MCU's own Anthony Mackie), in addition to contributing to The Twilight Zone reboot and Moon Knight. Famed for their eccentric and captivating sci-fi tales, the pair's impressive backgrounds align perfectly with the time-traveling narrative of Loki, making them the ideal fit for this endeavor. Entrusting the leadership of such a show to two exceptionally talented emerging filmmakers can only bring positive outcomes for the MCU. It is high time this franchise embraces more individualistic storytelling instead of repeatedly adhering to a tried-and-tested formula.

One standout aspect of the first season was how it justified bringing Loki back after his demise in Avengers: Infinity War at the hands of Thanos. Initially seen as a lazy attempt to hold onto a popular character, the creators and writers transformed Loki into a hero, breathing new life into his character arc. The inclusion of Mobius as Loki's sidekick allowed Tom Hiddleston to showcase his chemistry with Owen Wilson, a famous comedian from the past few decades.
